FUMC Kosse offering Bible Study

Rev. Rita Sims plans to offer a short-term Disciple Bible Study based on the Gospel of John. In its wisdom, the early church chose to keep four Gospel accounts of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. Three of these Gospels are very similar to each other. However, the Gospel of John stands apart. We overhear Jesus talking with Nicodemus, a Samaritan woman, and Mary Magdalene. We marvel at Jesus turning water into wine, calling Lazarus from the tomb, and washing his disciples’ feet. We linger over Jesus’ promises:

FUMC Kosse members attend UM ARMY Camp

by Rev. Rita Sims

Two youth and one adult from the First United Methodist Church in Kosse attended a UM ARMY Camp at Clear Lake, Texas, the week of July 14. UM ARMY stands for United Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth. The organization began in 1979 with several Houston churches banding together to do mission work in nearby towns. UM ARMY’s mission is to provide Christ-centered, quality youth work camps that serve people in need and promote spiritual growth and leadership development in youth.

Coolidge Senior News

My oh my, haven’t we had good weather? It is so nice to be in the 80’s in July isn’t it? I know the hot days are still to come, but I did enjoy this nice week. Our Vinson clan was in Glen Rose for the weekend and the children had nice hiking mornings and got to see where the dinosaurs once walked. We old Vinson’s sat under the trees and had a nice visit and ate a lot of good food. We had a truly blessed reunion and I thank our Lord for our time together.

Thornton Senior News

Special for the Journal Before this time next week, half of the year will be over and we’ll be on the down side of the year. The only thing that bothers me about this is we still have the hottest part of the year to go through. No rain, everything tries to dry up unless you can keep water pumping to it. We’ll be struggling to pay both the water and electric bills at the same time. The bright side of this is we don’t have to panic because God will see us through, no problem.

It’s about to get hot, and I for one have decided to enjoy every day, hot or cold, for at this age we may not see very many more seasons. Take each day as a blessing that God has given! We had a super week at our center, I got to deliver “Meals On Wheels” this week while Scott Ray was recuperating from surgery. I really enjoy visiting a few minutes with everyone and seeing how much things change since last visit.

We got a really nice shower while at the Baptist Church this morning. We have thunder and rain, then it cleared off and was a very pretty day. It is 5p.m. now and looks like rain again. We could use some more rain. I put a rose out at Rodgers grave and went yesterday to the cemetery and watered it. I felt like I would need to water it again in a day or two but now, thanks to the rain, I can wait for a few more days. I planted some bluebonnet seeds on the grave with many of them coming up and a few are blooming.
