Grand Champion Market Steer chosen at Livestock Show

Grand Champion market steer at this year’s Limestone County Fair and Youth Stock Show was this 1,267-pound entry by Tyler Rader of Groesbeck FFA. The steer sold for $6,800 during the Commission-free Youth Project Sale, held Saturday at the county fairgrounds in Groesbeck.

Limestone County Fair Pet Show

Rowdy Crabb, 5, of Groesbeck, and his dog, King, who is half blue heeler, wear bunny ears in solidarity with Rowdy’s other pet, a rabbit named Eddie, that the boy also entered in the pet show at the Limestone County Fair on Thursday, March 27.

The Cynthia Ann Garden Club announced this months Civic Pride Award to Windsor Nursing Home located at 1025 W. Yeagua and the Yard of the Month to Bill and Mary Renfroe at 206 Browning. Congratulations to both of these winners.

We thank God for his healing love and many blessings he has bestowed upon us. Ms. Veta is well and back at the center for lunch every day. Ms. Iva is doing very well and we thank her for washing the towels for the center. We are very thankful for the progress these ladie have made. This week was Spring Break for the kids and we thank them for all of their hard work.

Janie Croft Williams inducted into the DAR

Janie Croft Williams, formerly of Groesbeck, was inducted into the Zebulon Pike Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on March 15, 2014, in Colorado Springs, CO. Janie’s Revolutionary War Patriot is Israel Pickens of South Carolina, the grandfather of Israel Pickens Croft who came to Limestone County after the Civil War.

Lions Club Honors Dale Wilson

The Groesbeck Lions Club bestowed a big honor on longtime Lions Club member, Dale Wilson, at its meeting on Wednesday, March 5. Wilson was presented the Melvin Jones Fellow award. The Melvin Jones Fellow award is the highest honor that a local Lions Club may present to a fellow member.

City Hall renovations to restore old tin ceilings

Groesbeck City Hall will soon have a new look more in keeping with its original design and also additional half-doors as a security feature. City Administrator Jim Cox updated city council on the City Hall renovation project at the council’s specially called Feb. 25 meeting. The council approved a contract with Vox Construction for $50,000 to make the following renovations to the building:

St. Mary’s Valentine Spirits

St. Mary Catholic church “Spirits” group offered a bon appetite for Valentine’s day. A gourmet “Cajun Gumbo” cooked by the extraordinary 1994 Texas chef of the year, Allen Meyer of Wortham, was enjoyed by all.
