18th annual Groesbeck Lions Club Car Show once again is successful event

The 18th annual Groesbeck Lions Club Car Show was held last Saturday at the Groesbeck City Park and was a well attended and successful event. The car show had over fifty entries with some unique automobiles and trucks present. The automobiles and trucks present represented various time periods.

Debbie Brewer, speaker for Groesbeck Lions

Debbie Brewer, the business office manager at the Limestone Medical Center, was the speaker for the Groesbeck Lions Club on Wednesday, June 15. She was introduced by Larry Price, administrator of the LMC. One of the speaker’s main points of discussion were the many changes in the health insurance programs that have been made in recent years. Brewer encouraged her audience to study and ask questions about any changes in one’s insurance program.

T. K. Presley speaks recently to Lions Club about Groesbeck EDC

T. K. Presley, the executive director of the Groesbeck Economic Development Corporation (EDC), spoke to the Groesbeck Lions Club recently about the Groesbeck EDC. The Groesbeck EDC was founded in June of 1997. The EDC is a nonprofit, sub entity of the city. The EDC is governed by a Board of Directors with three of the directors being members of the City Council.

Local swimming pool opening Saturday

The Groesbeck City Swimming Pool, located in the Groesbeck City Park, will open this Saturday, June 11. The pool is open Tuesday through Saturday each week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The pool is closed on Mondays.

Groesbeck Study club holds end of the year social

The Groesbeck Study Club had its end of the year social on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the home of Suzie & Don Waller at 6:30pm. The theme was Hawaiian Paradise and we each received a lei when we entered the residence. All the tables were covered in brightly colored cloths and the place settings were floral and colorful with little candles in the center of each table. Not only had the hostesses for the evening, but some of the attendees dressed in colorful Hawaiian attire! We had Lemonade punch to start.

Cynthia Ann Garden Club has luncheon and plant exchange

The Cynthia Ann Garden Club met for their final meeting for the summer at the Groesbeck Woman’s Club on Thursday, May 26th. Susan Hughes, president, opened the meeting with a prayer. Members had each brought either a salad or a dessert, and enjoyed a covered-dish luncheon. Hostesses for the afternoon were the Social Committtee: Joan McEntyre, Barbara Casey, Martha LeNoir and Sharen McMillan.

District files to be moved for safety

The heavy, rolling files in the Limestone County courthouse basement must be moved immediately as they present a danger to the district clerks who use them, said Maintenance Supervisor Sam Callis. He gave the report to county commissioners at their May 24 meeting, while reporting on what options the county has to repair the floor. Callis emphasized that the courthouse building itself is structurally sound but only has a problem in one area of the basement floor.

Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International recently installed new officers for the 2016-2018 Biennium.
