Groesbeck DPS Trooper teaches crash investigation

Kenneth Shields, Trooper III , teaches crash investigation to McLennan Community College Law Enforcement Academy. Kenneth Shields is a graduate of Groesbeck High School and received a Bachelor Degree of Science in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. He joined DPS as a Trooper in 2007 and has been stationed in Groesbeck since 2010. Normally, there are two academies per year, once those who attend successfully complete the academy they go to work as law enforcement officers for surrounding agencies such as Waco Police Department; McLennan County Sheriff’s Office; Hewitt Police Department; and several other agencies including some in Limestone County. Recently Trooper Shields completed teaching his first class with MCC. Students spend six days, a total of 48 training hours all in crash investigation. Pictured above is the first class that are scheduled to graduate the academy on June 9th. Contributed photo.

Garden Club holds hold annual Flower Show

Groesbeck Woman's Club holds meeting

The Groesbeck Woman’s Club met in Executive Session on Monday, March 21st at 5:15 at the Woman’s Club. Attending were Mary Zeman, Pam McNutt, Carol Jenkins, Peggy Beck and Ginger Fritz.

We discussed several items on the agenda but the most important item was the upcoming luncheon planned at the Spring Arts and Crafts Show to held on Saturday, April 2nd at the Groesbeck Convention Center. We approved the flyer that will be posted around town.

The Groesbeck Woman's Club is providing the lunch from 10:30 til gone at the Spring Arts & Crafts Show at the Groesbeck Convention Center on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

We will be serving: Chicken Spaghetti Dinner, Drink & Dessert for $7.00 per person.

We will also be selling whole cakes and pies. (Will benefit repairs on the Woman's Club.) Meeting adjourned.

Groesbeck UIL One Act Play receives Alternate Play Award

The Groesbeck High School theater department competed on March 22, 2016 in the District 18 UIL One Act Play completion and received the Alternate Play Award. The troupe performed THE GRASS HARP by Truman Capote. Winning All-Star Cast Awards were Michaela Medlen and Hannah Tyus. Winning Honorable Mention All Star Cast Awards were Brandley Mushinski and Daniel Snow.

Yard of the Month, Civic Pride Awarded

The Cynthia Ann Garden Club awarded the yard of the month and civic pride for March this week. Yard of the Month was awarded to Laurie Allen at 609 E. Jacinto, Groesbeck. Civic pride was awarded to Farmers State Bank, 121 S. Ellis, Groesbeck. Congratulations to both of these winners.
