Goats fall to Zebras 14-13

NEW BRAUNFELS – Upon further review, the zebras got it right. The pass play that appeared to set up Groesbeck (1-3) for the game-winning score last Saturday night was correctly called incomplete and Jourdanton (3-1) held on for the 14-13 victory at Canyon High School.

Groebeck Cross Country finishes first

The Groesbeck cross country team competed in the Bill Bradley Invitational Cross Country Meet held in Gatesville on Thursday, Sept. 18. The girl’s team competed in the junior varsity division, finishing in first place with four runners placing in the top 15.

Goat Tennis team defeats China Spring

The Goats varsity tennis team defeated China Spring, 12-7, in a home match last Thursday. In boy’s doubles, Groesbeck won all three matches led by Michael Loyd and Logan Boecker defeating China Spring’s Shilling and Webb, 8-2. Noah Basden and Noah Santa Cruz won against Emblend and Fulton, 8-3, while Jacob Holyfield and Nikolay Kuzminas cruised by Bodnar and Arnold, 8-3.

Goats fall to Lions in 40-0 loss

Last Friday’s home football game between Groesbeck and Teague came down to one thing –Red Zone execution. Where the Goats could not, the Lions could in the 40-0 loss. Teague (3-0), ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press Texas high school Class3A poll, scored on three of its first four possessions of the game. Two of those scores came after Groesbeck (1-2) had driven inside the 20 yard line, only to turn over the ball.

Goats Cross Country teams bring home medals

Groesbeck’s cross country teams participated in the Hewitt Kiwanis Club Invitational Meet – hosted by Midway ISD – last Friday, Sept. 5, at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex. This is one of the largest meets in Central Texas, ranging from 150 to 300 runners with only the top 20 in each race receiving medals.

Goats slaughter Cobras in 60-12 Win

It didn’t take long last Thursday night for the Groesbeck Goats to take control of the football game as they took an early 15-0 lead after the fi rst quarter and wound up with a 60-12 win over the visiting Cochrane Cobras. Groesbeck started sprinkling in reserve players throughout the third quarter after leading the Cobras at the half, 41-6.

Groesbeck Cross Country competes in relay race Mud, Sweat and Cheers

The Goats cross country teams participated in the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relay this past Saturday (Aug. 30) in Caldwell. The teams broke down into groups of four in the 1.5 mile relay race. Coach Lori Kelley said the course was shorter than what teams normally race, it proved to be extremely challenging with many obstacles, hills and lots of mud to climb and run through.

Lady Goats meet with success in recent tournament

After falling to Gatesville in a close match last Tuesday, the Lady Goats met with success in the tournament they hosted last Thursday through Saturday. Groesbeck opened up the tournament by defeating Troy, 25-16, 25-9, in pool play. The Lady Goats took the second match of the morning by tripping up the Springtown Porcupines in two sets, 25-22, 25-19.

Opening Day for Groesbeck Goats tomorrow

Opening day for Groesbeck Goats football is tomorrow (Aug. 29) when they travel to Bullard to take on the Panthers fromDistrict 5-4A-DII.  The Goats have two scrimmages under their belts against La Vega and most recently, Centerville, and are ready for their Friday contest according to head coach Bruce McDonald.

Goat Tennis starting the year with new coaches

Although summer is coming to a close, fall sports have begun to take center stage here in Groesbeck. Both cross country and football open regular season play this weekend, while volleyball started earlier this month and is in full swing.
