Goats win co-district champ title

The Groesbeck baseball team clinched a share of the District 18-4A title behind a steal of home, a hidden ball trick, and another dominating pitching performance last Friday in a 9-3 win over Palestine. The Goats are co-district champs with Madisonville as both teams finished 6-2 in district play, splitting the season series, 1-1. The teams played a game Wednesday for playoff seeding with the winner being the No. 1 seed and the loser at No. 2. No matter that outcome, the Goats are 2016 District 18-4A champions. Groesbeck will play a warm up game before the playoffs begin Friday, May 6. The first round of the playoffs will be against a team from District 17-4A.

Goats win 11-4 against Eagles

By Todd Boyd
Special to the Journal
The Groesbeck baseball team is nothing else if not consistent during the district season. The Goats consistently fall behind early – and just as consistently - come back for the victory.
This week’s victim was District 18-4A foe Fairfield, who scored first, and then fell by the wayside in the 11-4 Goats win. It was the fifth win in a row and the fourth game in a row in which Groesbeck has fallen behind. With one game to play, Groesbeck (14-8 and 5-1 in district play) has clinched a playoff spot and controls its own destiny for a coveted district championship trophy.
The quest for that piece of hardware continues at 7 p.m. Friday for a Senior Night game against Palestine. Bradlye Duncan, Chad Feeney, Josh Forge, Hogan Johnson and Cash Waller will be honored for their time spent representing Groesbeck on the diamond.
