2016 Texas State 7 on 7 Tournament

 

 

The 2016 Texas State 7-on-7 tournament is now in the books with The Woodlands defeating Dickinson, 32-26, to win the Division I championship and Kaufman victorious over Somerset, 32-27, taking the Division II championship.

In the Division I consolation championship game, Killeen Ellison beat A&M Consolidated, 46-34, while Grace Community blasted Bay City, 53-27, to win the Division II consolation championship.

Teams competing from District 9-4A DII were Fairfield and Lorena.

Fairfield finished 1-2 in pool play, falling to Harmony 39-27 in their opening game of the tournament and lost a close one to Mineral Wells, 19-14, in Game 2. The Eagle team picked up their lone win of pool play against Odem, 39-19, to advance to the consolation bracket.

Upcoming Sports Camps

 

 

Here are some upcoming sports camps that will take place at Groesbeck High School later this month.

Groesbeck Football Camp

July 19-21 at GHS

This camp is for incoming third through eighth graders, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per athlete.

Campers should come dressed in shorts, t-shirt and football cleats or sneakers. Also, the concession stand will be open, so parents should send a little extra money for along with their athletes for snacks. Water will be provided at all times for campers.

Campers will receive individual coaching from the Goats varsity coaching staff, with instruction on offense and defensive fundamentals and competition.

Registration forms are available on the Groesbeck ISD website under the “Departments” tab. Click on “Athletics”, then scroll down the left column and click on “Summer Camps” to find the camp you’re looking for.

Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Softball teams released

The 2016 Texas Sports Writers Association all-state softball teams were released on Sunday. Locally, District 18-4A’s Kaci Bachtel (Fairfield) was the lone representative from the district named to the Class 4A Honorable Mention team as a utility player.

Goats picked to finish third in District 9-3A DI preseason football poll

Groesbeck head football coach Steve Hale surely has to be pleased with the latest predictions that recently were published in the summer issue of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. DCTF has the Goats picked to finish third out of the eight teams in District 9-3A DI.

Summer is in full swing for Groesbeck athletes, as July knocks on the door.

With that, it won’t be long before the Lady Goats hit the floor to begin volleyball practice.

In case parents and teens haven’t visited the website, pre-season volleyball practice is scheduled to start on Monday, Aug. 1 through Thursday, Aug. 4.

That first Monday, tryouts/practices will be held in the morning from 7:30 – 11 a.m. and in the afternoon from noon to 2 p.m.

The same regiment will be in place again on Tuesday and teams will be chosen at the close of practice, with a varsity meeting following a little later from 3 to 5 p.m.

Players who haven’t turned in paperwork are encouraged to arrive early on the first day.

The Lady Goats will hold their first scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 5 and again Saturday, Aug. 6.

Groesbeck to host TTA tournaments

Groesbeck will be hosting TTA district tournaments.

They will host the Boys 6U t-ball tournament for District 6.

The six team tournament will feature the first and second place teams from Groesbeck, along with the first and second place teams from Mexia and Leon County.

The tournament is also slated to start July 11.

The town will be hosting the TTA state Girls 10U softball tournament that will begin July 18.

The Mexia Baseball/Softball Association will be hosting the Texas Teenage Association’s Boys 10 and under tight base tournament for District 8, starting July 11.

The tournament will include the first and second place teams from Mexia, along with the first and second place teams from the Brazos Valley American League and National League to round out the bracket of six teams.
