Groesbeck Bomb Squad and Groesbeck Swamp Donkeys WIN Pre-Season Tournament!

Groesbeck Youth Softball/Baseball Association hosted the girl 8U and the boys 12U pre-season tournament on April 7th, 8th and 9th.
The Bomb Squad came out slow dropping the first game to Riesel 13-9, but then came back strong to battle through all five games of the loser bracket and meet back up with the same Riesel team that put them in the loser bracket. The Bomb Squad still has a lot of fight in them and beat them 17-12 to make them the tournament champions.
The Swamp Donkeys won their first bracket game against Mart and then dropped a close one to Riesel in the second round. They then battled through the losers bracket winning three games and meeting up with the same Riesel team that put them in the losers bracket. Their bat came out hot and they won 11-4 making them tournament champions.

Little Olympics are Tuesday

The Groesbeck Independent School District announces that the annual Little Olympics are set for Tuesday, April 26, at Groesbeck Stadium. The Little Olympics will start at 6 p.m., but the stadium will be open at 5 p.m. Participating in the Little Olympics will be Pre-K-4 through the 6th grade.

Groesbeck Track teams compete in district meet in Palestine

The Groesbeck High School track teams competed in the district meet held in Palestine last week. The varsity Goats finished fourth overall, while the varsity Lady Goats came in fifth. The junior varsity Lady Goats took fourth and the JV Goats placed fifth.

Groesbeck advances nine players to the regional tennis meet

After months of hard work playing against tough opponents in matches with 5A and 6A schools, the Groesbeck varsity tennis team had several players advance to the regional meet after a successful outing during district competition last week. Boys doubles teams Michael and Jason Loyd came away with a first place finish, while teammates Logan Boecker and Jacob Holeyfield took second place.

Goat track teams competes at Scotty Neal Relays

<p>By Stephen R. Farris Journal Sports Groesbeck High School track teams competed at the Scotty Neal Relays held at Mexia High School last Thursday. Top finishes of the day went to junior varsity Goats runner Trey Hicks, who medaled with his fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash. JV Lady Goat Sydney Beldin had a second place finish in the shot put and placing in third behind Beldin was Kiera Anglin. Paige Spivey placed third in the high jump for the JV team. For the varsity Goats, Brandon Canady came in second in the 100 meter dash, Carter Devrow finished third in the 1600 meter run and Jarrius Washington took third in the high jump. Next up will be the district meet that is scheduled to be held in Palestine this coming Wednesday and Thursday. Meet results: JV Goats 400 meter dash &ndash; Trey Hicks finished fourth with a time of 53.57.

Lady Goats Golf team for the win

TEAGUE – The Groesbeck girls golf team could not have asked for better weather during the two-day district tournament at Tri-County Golf Club.
Light breezes and warm temperatures kept scores down and spirits high as the Lady Goats (487-453 940) won the District 18-4A tournament last Monday and Tuesday. With championship trophy in hand, the team qualified for the regional tournament, held earlier this week at Raven’s Nest in Huntsville.
Leading the charge to first was senior Sky Loper, whose two-day total of (114-103 217) was good enough to earn the silver medal. Senior Sarah Jones carded a (122-105 227) for fourth place, while Kealan Beevers (126-126 252), Madison Masters (125-119 244), and MacKenzie Erskine (130-134 264) rounded out the district champions.
