Goat Golf finish first at Normangee

The Groesbeck girls golf team recently finished first at the Normangee Invitational. The Lady Goats were led by senior Sarah Jones, who was third medalist. The team shot a one-day total of 449. Jones shot a 108 and was followed closely by freshman MacKenzie Erskine (109). Freshmen Kealan Beevers (110), and Madison Masters (122), and senior Skye Loper (123) round out the team. Participating as individual medalists were freshman Rylee Goodman (132) and senior Kylee Masters (149).

First Annual Battin’ for Bradley

Last Sunday, friends, family and lovers of softball and baseball gathered to compete in the First Annual Battin’ for Bradley event. The day proved to be eventful and successful as the young and not so young participated in the hit-a-thon and home run derby competition to honor the late Bradley J. Swick.

Lady Goats come back to crush Mexia 12-7

The Lady Goats got off to a slow start Saturday morning, but it didn’t take long for the offense to get going despite Mexia holding on to a 7-4 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. That’s when Groesbeck took charge and scored six runs to move out on top, 10-5, and added two more runs in the sixth to defeat the Ladycats 12-7, picking up their third district win of the season.

7th Grade Boys Track Results

The seventh grade Goats track team won first place at the Cougar Relays held in Leon last week. The boy’s team finished with an overall total of 108 points.
Highlights from the meet for Groesbeck showed Jordan Dawes finishing first in the shot put, while teammate Jessie Salinas took first place in the long jump.
The 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams of John Reed, Zach Wilson, Salinas and Dawes finished first in both races, while the team of Reed, Wilson, Salinas and Christian Thomas also placed first in the 4x400 meter relay.

Lady Goats fall to Madisonville last week

After starting the district season 2-0, hard times fell upon the Groesbeck Lady Goats in Week 2 as they fell to Madisonville at home last Tuesday, 16-1, and lost a one-run game to Fairfield on the road Thursday, 4-3.
Madison Waddle and Ashley Ramirez both went 2-2 at the plate in the game with Madisonville, with Waddle scoring the run and Ramirez picking up the RBI.
Macie Berry had one hit in the game, a double and Katie Reeves also had one hit for the Lady Goats.
Reeves and Dani Morgan split pitching duties for Groesbeck Tuesday night.
In Fairfield, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning of play, but Groesbeck bounced back in the fifth to score three runs and move ahead by one, 3-2.
