A weekend of tournament action was highlighted by a pair of dominant pitching performances for the Goats (3-8), while splitting four games in Palmer. The pitching of Colton Swick and Ty Chiglo in Groesbeck’s two wins showed the Goats had found a solid one-two punch on the mound.

By Putt Riddle

The Groesbeck Goats completed the scrimmage portion of their schedule last week with three no score games against La Vega at home on Wednesday, February 11th and against Llano and Salado in Salado, Saturday, February 15th. Goat baseball coach Cameron Sellstrom and the varsity assistant Cody Ashley along with head JV Red Coach Sean Sullivan and head JV White coach Rock Stanley used the three scrimmages last week to determine which of those three teams the players who have been trying out would be assigned to. The final rosters were not available at press time. Sellstrom commented on the scrimmages, “Against La Vega, Colton Swick , Trey McGilvray and Chad Feeney pitched well. Jaime Rocha with a double and a single drove in three runs. Dalton Longenbaugh also had a double and a single and drove in two runs. Chris Kelley had three singles. Basketball seasons over at GHS

By Putt Riddle

The thump, thump, thump of basketballs hitting the gym floor ended at Groesbeck High last week as both the Goats and Lady Goats ended their season with losses, a typical ending for most high schools, since there can only be one boys team and one girls team left standing as the class state champions when the final games are played . The Lady Goats lost to the #1 state-ranked La Vega Lady Pirates on Thursday, February 13th at the Wolens Special Events Center at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana in the Area playoff game 92-36. Coach Darin Swift’s second Groesbeck team had earned the right to play La Vega by winning a well-played Bi-District game on Monday, February 10th over the Central Pollock Lady Dogs 66-58 at the Johnson Coliseum at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
