Lady Goats end week with 3-3 Record

Despite falling to the Rusk Lady Eagles last Friday night, 13-3, the week was gracious to the Lady Goats as they ended it with a total of 46 runs scored in three games and a 3-3 record in district play. Groesbeck out hit Rusk 9-7, but an error in the fi rst led to two Lady Eagle runs and a pair of errors in the fourth resulted in a couple of more runs.

Goats fall to Fairfield

FAIRFIELD – The Eagles, behind a mighty wind, cranked three home runs on the way to a 14-3 five-inning win over Groesbeck on Wednesday. It was the second loss in as many days for the Goats (3-4 in District 19-3A) and the second consecutive win for Fairfield (4-3 in district). The game was to be played last Friday, but was called due to rain.

Goat Track competes in Fairfield

It was a good day for hurdlers as both the junior varsity and varsity teams finished in the top of their heats at the Fairfield Invitational Track Meet held last Thursday at Fairfield High School. Louis Contreras won a first and third place medal in the 110 Meter and 300 Meter Hurdles, Chandler Boyd finished second in the 200 Meter Dash and Leuleaux came in second in the High Jump to propel the JV boys team to a fourth place finish overall.

Lady Goats play at Mexia

The Lady Goats game against the Mexia Ladycats ended just about the way it started with the visitors scoring runs in the first and seventh innings for a come-from-behind win as Groesbeck fell at home by one, 9-8. Mexia got on the board with four quick runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Goats battled back with four of their own to tie it up after Bailey Johnson, Harlee Bennett, Jamie Madison and Chelsea Carter all scored. Groesbeck added three more runs in the third to take a 7-4 lead. Mandy Adams, Morgan McQueen and Skye Loper all scored for the Lady Goats in the inning.

Lady Goats Rally against Rusk

The Lady Goats tried to rally back against Rusk last Thursday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but that’s all they could push across as Groesbeck fell to the Lady Eagles, 8-2, in district play.

Historic Season for UT at Tyler Women’s Basketball Team

The UT Tyler’s women’s basketball team ended their historic season in the Division III sweet 16 tournament in Walla Walla, Washington. UT Tyler women won the American Southwest regular season conference and the conference tournament to advance to Memphis, Tennessee, for the regional tournament. Wins there over Maryville College of Maryville, Tenn. and host Rhodes College of Memphis advanced them to the sweet sixteen, in Walla Walla, Washington.

Goats capture medals at Groesbeck Tennis Invitational

The Goats captured three first place medals in Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles at their host tournament, the Groesbeck Invitational last Thursday. Noah Basden and Logan Boecker defeated Robinson’s Kerry Carriveau and Hunter Goolsby for the boys doubles championship. Basden and Boecker played one of their toughest matches on the day against Waco’s Richard Johnson and Marshall Tekell to get to the final round.

Groesbeck Powerlifting

Approximately 195 lifters representing 79 schools in Class 3A competed at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association’s Girls State Meet held in Corpus Christi this past weekend, March 15. Groesbeck was represented by Meagan McLean who was ranked No. 18 in the 123 Class. On Saturday, she set personal records in the Squat, Deadlift and overall total categories as she improved her ranking to No. 10 after it was all over.

Lady Goats prove something, win 19-3

After a controversial call resulted in a 6-5 loss to Mart the night before, the Lady Goats were out to prove something last Friday in their district opener against the Palestine Ladycats in an early afternoon road game. And that something resulted in a 19-3 Groesbeck win over Palestine on the bats of Jamie Madison’s two homeruns and pitcher Morgan McQueen’s four-bagger.

Groesbeck well represented at Sixth Annual FCA Victory Bowl

Groesbeck will be well represented at this year’s Sixth Annual FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Victory Bowl and Inaugural Volleyball game that will be held in Waco on June 14,2014.
