Lady Goats fall to 1-6 after last weeks tourney/games

The Lady Goats fell to 1-6 on the season after playing in the BCS Tournament this past weekend and against Teague Monday night. Madison Waddle went 1-2 at the plate with a homer and two RBI in the Teague game. Skye Loper, Macie Berry, Chelsea Carter and Shelby West all had hits in the game. Berry’s hit was a double for extra bases.

Goats fall to Eagles, beat Wildcats last week

The Groesbeck Goats played two hard fought basketball games, falling to the Fairfield Eagles on the road by one last Tuesday night, 48-47, but coming back to beat the Palestine Wildcats for the second time this season in a one-game tiebreaker, 47-44, to capture the No. 4 playoff seed from District 18-4A last Friday night in Centerville.

Groesbeck students complete full marathon

Groesbeck students proudly display their medals after completing the Miracle Match Kid’s Marathon on Sat., Jan. 30th. These students completed 25.2 miles on their own, a mile at a time, and then traveled to Waco to run the last mile to complete a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

Groesbeck playoff hopes still alive after splitting district games last week

Despite six blocked shots by Jarrius Washington and steady defensive play by his Groesbeck teammates, the Madisonville Mustangs somehow managed to pull out a 62-57 win over the Goats last Friday night at home. Sabrien Jones led the Goats with 20 points in the game and had three rebounds, five assists and three steals. John O’Kelley scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals and two assists.

Goat Powerlifting finish third

Groesbeck powerlifting teams competed in the Darrell Piske Memorial meet held in Fairfield last Thursday. D.J. Roberts led the boys with a third place finish in the 275 Class, Ryan Hardin and Clayton Herridge finished fifth and sixth in the 242 Class.

Basketball Throwdown One win, One loss against Mexia last Friday

The Groesbeck Goats pulled off the upset on the road last Friday night against district rival Mexia, defeating the Blackcats 57-54 to record their first district win of the season.

Softball season is here

The Lady Goats began their softball season with a pair of scrimmages last week. They defeated Bryan on Feb. 2, 10-8, but fell to Teague last Saturday, 14-1. Against Bryan, Groesbeck jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two complete. The Lady Vikings came back with five runs in the top of the third to move ahead 5-2, but the Lady Goats countered with five of their own in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-5.

Lady Goats Basketball Report

The Groesbeck Lady Goats have two more district games left this season, the first this Friday night on the road against the Mexia Ladycats and then at home next Tuesday, Feb. 12, against the Palestine Ladycats.

UIL releases new districts

While it may not come as a big surprise, the UIL made it official by releasing the new district re-alignment for the 2016-18 seasons. Groesbeck dropped from Conference 4A, Division II to Conference 3A, Division I.

Goat 7th Grade Red team wins in overtime

The Groesbeck Goats seventh grade Red team pulled out a one-point over-time win against the Mexia seventh grade team, 41-40, on Jan. 25. Zach Wilson led the charge with 14 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.
