Coolidge Track Duo fared well at State UIL Meet

The Coolidge duo of Dianna Kirven and Delvin Smith fared well at the UIL State Track Meet this past weekend at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Kirven competed in four events, finishing second in the 400 Meter Dash, third in the High Jump, fourth in the Long Jump and sixth in the 200 Meter Da sh.

Groesbeck Lady Goats dominate All-District

Groesbeck and Rusk dominated the 2014 19-3A All- District team that was released recently. Groesbeck’s Jamie Madison was the Offensive MVP in the district. Madison played in 27 games this season for the Lady Goats, collecting 41 hits with fi ve doubles, a triple and 12 homeruns while batting .554. Madison also scored 27 runs and knocked in 46 and had an On Base Percentage (OBP) of 1.135 for the year. If readers recall, Madison had a huge game against Fairfi eld back in early April when she hit four homeruns, scored four runs and knocked in 12, with two walks and was a perfect 4-4 at the plate.

Goats fall to Hudson

The Goats fought another tough battle on Friday night in Huntsville against Lufkin Hudson behind a strong pitching performance from freshman Chandler Boyd, but the Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the fi fth to break a 2-2 tie to win the game 5-2 and move on to the next round of the UIL state baseball playoffs.

Mandy Adams signs to Southwestern

On Tuesday Mandy Adams signed up to play basketball for Southwestern College located in Winfi eld, Kansas. Mandy’s parents, Mike and Allison Adams, her fellow classmates and her current and future coaches look on as she puts pen to paper. Groesbeck Coach, Darin Swift gave a congratulatory speech and a list of accomplishments for Mandy in the 2014 season.

Lady Goats battle Carthage Bulldogs with a 9-1 loss at Bi-District Playoffs

The Lady Goats had a tough time of it last Thursday night in Athens, falling to the Carthage Lady Bulldogs, 9-1, in their bi-district playoff game. Down one to nothing after one, Groesbeck came back to tie the game in the top of the second after Chelsea Carter reached base with a walk. Carter found her way to second on a passed ball and made it to third after Jamie Madison grounded out.

Lady Goats lock up second place

The Groesbeck Lady Goats locked up second place in district with 10-0 thumping of Fairfiled to celebrate Senior Night. Before the game, Groesbeck honored its pair of seniors, Jamie Madison and Mandy Adams, who both closed out their final home game with an RBI to seal the run-rule victory in the bottom of the fifth.

Goats shut down Eagles with 6-2 Win

Groesbeck bats pounded out 14 hits, while a freshman pitcher shutdown Fairfield in Tuesday’s playoff clinching, 6-2 win. Making only his second varsity start, Chandler Boyd (1-1, 1.10 ERA) twirled a gem, striking out seven Eagles and giving up only one earned run. Boyd relied heavily on senior catcher Dalton Longenbaugh and senior first baseman Barrett Myers.

Lady Goats Softball defeat Blackcats

behind to squeak out a onerun win in Groesbeck, so this time around was somewhat of a wake-up call for the Lady Goats. “I told my kids tonight that Mexia won’t give up,” said Coach Lacey Merrifield. “I don’t care if we’re up by 20, we need to go out there like it’s a one-one ball game.”

Girls Golf finsished second at District

The Groesbeck girls golf team fi nished second at the district meet held last week at The Challenge at the Woods golf course in Jacksonville and Big Cedar Country Club in Teague. The fi ve team members included Skye Loper, Morgan Erskine, Kathleen O’Kelley, Lexie Frazier and Sarah Jones.
