Groesbeck Lions Club hosts District 2-X3 Cabinet Meeting

On this past Saturday, July 24, the Groesbeck Lions Club hosted the Cabinet Meeting for Lions Club District 2-X3 with the district including a large portion of Central Texas. The meeting was held at the Groesbeck Church of Christ.

Seventy-eight Lions Club members representing 22 clubs were present.

The Limestone-Falls Soil and Water Conservation District (l-F SWCD) Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday, July 19, at 1:00 p.m., in the NRCS office, Groesbeck.

Directors present were: Claude L. Monk, Chairman of Tehuacana; J.B. Sackett, Vice Chairman of Groesbeck; John Schlemmer, Secretary/Treasurer of Mart; Mike Meyer of Marlin and Ronnie Sims of Personville.

“Concert for the Cure” Relay for Life

The Mexia State Supported Living Center “Warriors” will host an event benefitting the Limestone County Relay for Life, 2011 on Saturday, September 25 at Hughes Park.

Country, Bluegrass, Gospel, Christian Rock, Acoustic, and Folk Music bands will be entertaining.

Members present were Billy Waldrop, Mack Jones, George Tidwell, George Humble, Wanda Fewell with Charlene Black being absent.

FIF to hold conference

The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas will hold its 2010 Bernard and Audre Raporport State Conference on Friday, August 13 at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin. This year’s theme is Open Government: Navigating Digital Dangers.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott will be the conference’s Luncheon Keynote Speaker.

Limestone County Conservatives meet

The Limestone County Conservatives met at the Kosse Community Center on Monday, July 19, with John McCarver, president, presiding.

Following the pledge to the flag, Judge Daniel Burkeen led in prayer. Billy Anderson, who was ill on the night of the meeting, was remembered in prayer.

Unemployed Texans will be paid benefits for past weeks

AUSTIN – The deadline for jobless Texans to qualify for emergency unemployment benefits has been extended to the week of November 27, 2010. Congress passed HR 4213, the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2010, on Thursday setting this new filing deadline which allows long-term claimants to continue receiving unemployment benefits.
