Limestone Schools, Cities Annual Elections Saturday

- This Saturday, May 10, will be election day for some schools and cities in Limestone County. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
However, some of the governmental entities were entitled to cancel elections since the candidates were unopposed.
Given below is a glance at the various elections.
City of Groesbeck
See separate article for details of the City of Groesbeck Election.
Groesbeck ISD
The Groesbeck ISD cancelled its election since incumbents Scott Wilson and Chris Rand are both running unopposed. Both are at-large members of the school board.
South Limestone
Hospital District
With no opposition, the South Limestone Hospital District cancelled its Board of Directors elections. Incumbents, who were unopposed for reelection, are Ken Lee, Dene Anderson, Kelley Self, and Brett Fewell.
City of Thornton
The City of Thornton has contested races for mayor and city council.
Mayor James Jackson, Jr. is being challenged by Chuck Robinson.
Two Thornton City Council members will be elected from a field of six candidates.
The City Council candidates are Joe Neason Jr. (incumbent), Richard Ponce, Randy Franklin, Devin Wilson, Kenneth Capps, and Walter Hewitt.
The election will be at the Thornton-Walters Community Center (School House).
City of Kosse
The City of Kosse has cancelled its election as Mayor Ben Daniell and Council members Ronnie Funderburk, Richard Bennett, and Scarlett Swinnea are all unopposed.
City of Mexia
The City of Mexia cancelled its election as all of the candidates, all incumbents, are unopposed. The candidates are Laura Rothrock (Place 2), Arthur (Chunky) Busby (Place 5) and Troy Miller (Place 6).
Mexia ISD
The Mexia ISD has two contested races. In Place 4, the candidates are Gordon Lee and Brian Johnson with the incumbent, Roxianne Schuster, not seeking reelection. In Place 5, Bert Harrison, the incumbent, is being challenged by Stephanie High.
The election will be at the Mexia Civic Center.
City of Coolidge
Mayor Bobby Jacobs is unopposed for reelection as mayor of the City of Coolidge.
Four candidates are seeking election of the Coolidge City Council. The candidates are Kenneth Arnold (incumbent), Blanche Frazier (incumbent), Gerald Henderson, and Maria Samaniego. The third incumbent, Clint Ward, did not seek reelection.
The election will be at the Courthouse Annex in Coolidge.
Coolidge ISD
The Coolidge Independent School District does not have its school board election until November.
City of Tehuacana
The City of Tehuacana has cancelled its election since incumbents Kip Stuver and Tommy Platt are unopposed.
