The Greater Kosse Chamber of Commerce met on October 20th and selected a new home for the Beautification Award. The November City Council meeting will be held on Thursday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kosse Community Center. The date change is due to Election Day being on November 4. Ronnie Hale, the customer service representative from Entergy, will speak at this meeting and will address questions and concerns of the public. More ... The Kosse Community Center is sponsoring a Halloween Festival and More, starting at 7 p.m. on October 31. It will be a fun packed evening with exciting games, delicious treats, a haunted house and other surprises in store. Our goal is to have and ensure the safest Halloween possible. The LMC Foundation is planning its third annual Fundraiser on Saturday, November 15, at 6:30 p.m., in the Groesbeck Civic Center. The fundraiser will include a stew supper and a silent and live auction. Being brought back this year is the popular Gift Box Extravaganza. Watch for details in upcoming issues of the Journal. More ... October 30, 1958 LOWERYS ENTERTAIN WITH WEINER ROAST Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Lowery entertained Saturday night at the log hut with a weiner roast party. The principal entertainment after the wiener roast was dancing. More ... It seems as winter is on its way. I do hope that all that need flu shots have received them or will get them soon. I am really a believer in getting them for if you get the flu, it is so easy for it to go into pneumonia. We had the flu shots given here on the 23rd. The Penelope Wolverines celebrated Homecoming in a big way as they opened up District 14, Division I play, running over the Coolidge Yellowjackets, 56-8, Friday, Oct. 10th. Coolidge pulled to 16-8 on its only touchdown of the night, a nice run by James Johnson, but after that it was all Penelope. More ... In a District 14 game played at Yellowjacket Field, Friday October 17, the Avalon Eagles showed no mercy on the Coolidge Yellowjackets, running over the hometown boys, 66-0. The game ended at halftime. Payton Burkhart was the offensive spark for the Yellowjackets, who managed only 2 first downs against a tough Eagle defense. More ... The Coolidge Junior High Yellowjackets continued their defense of last years district championship team with a wild 50-31 win over the junior Avalon Eagles, Thursday, Oct. 23rd in Avalon. Shilomar Calhoun led the Jackets with 4 touchdowns, Aaron Salazar added 1, Joe Brown had 2 and Carlos Samaniego had 1 touchdown. More ...
