Altar Servers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mexia
Pictured are some altar servers who came for a practice last Saturday and the group went to Pizza Hut for lunch with their formators, Deacon Dwight Mahoney and Ms. Elizabeth Swick Being an altar server is a special privilege. It allows youth to be close to the altar, carry the cross or incense, carry the light of Christ, wear the robe of Baptism, hold the Book of the Prayers, lead processions, and assist at the Lord's Table with water and wine. By serving God in Church, altar servers also learn how to serve God outside of Church by helping people who are in need, taking care of each other and the earth that we live on, and loving people whom no one else loves. All students who have received the Holy Communion are invited to this ministry. We thank them.
On the fourth and fifth Sunday of each month, Adult altar servers (those who are married) serve the Altar as well.
