Eighth grade White volleyball team lost to Mexia 17-25, 10-25. Shelby Sprague led the team in scoring and showed great hustle in the match. The Red team also lost 17-25, 11-25 despite their best hitting of the season. Tyler Vest had 2 kills, Lauren Kate Waller and Tessa Weishuhn each had 1. Vest and Waller also each recorded a block. More ... The seventh grade Red football Goats lost to Connally last week 38-16. Tony Parker ran hard all night. Sterling Cable completed a 35 yard touchdown pass to Cody Favors. The Goat offense couldn't capitalize on many other possessions. Those who contributed on offense were Cody Sale, Colton Swick, Chris Kelley, Kendric Mack and Jesse Gomez. More ... The Navasota River is down by at least 3 feet. You can still launch in at Ft. Parker river ramp by being careful. You can hit stumps that you never hit before if you don't watch out. In short the river is dangerously low. On the last rain we had Lake Mexia almost filled up, but did not overflow, so the river did not benefit from it. More ... The Groesbeck Youth Baseball Association will have a meeting to elect officers for the 2008-09 season. The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 6, at 7 p.m. in the Enge Washington Cafeteria. Coach Steve Burrow had mixed emotions as his Groesbeck Goats held off his alma mater, Waco Connally, the school where he also held his first head coaching position, 17-14 at Goat Field last Friday. They are 7-1 for the year and 3-0 in District 19-3A They come in loaded with experienced speedy and big players as they try to make it back as far, if not further, in the state playoffs than last year's 13-1 team accomplished. They beat both LaVega and Waco Connally in straight sets last week to move to a 29-8 alltime best season record.The two wins left them tied with Mexia for first place in the district with 8-1 records. More ... The Groesbeck HOT Pee Wee Football Association's regular season games came to a close this past Saturday on our home field. Groesbeck will travel to Marlin Saturday November 1st for the first round of playoff games.
