Kosse Mine's dragline 'walks' across Highway 7
A stretch of Highway 7 was closed for about 16 hours Sunday as Luminant Energy moved a dragline excavator across the road to a digging site at Kosse Mine. Traffic was redirected through Oletha and Thornton while the massive machine "walked" across the highway. Highway 7 was closed at midnight Saturday and was open again by 4 p m. Sunday. More...

Southern LC voters to determine fate of proposal May 9

A plan to create a new taxing district to help fund fire departments will go before voters in southern Limestone County on May 9. The district would provide a tax base for Groesbeck, Thornton, Kosse, East Lake Limestone and West Lake Limestone volunteer fire departments, according to Groesbeck Fire Chief Charles Bratcher. LMC department helps patients with sleep problems
Some folks have a hard time falling asleep at night. Others can't seem to stay awake during the day. Limestone Medical Center's Sleep Studies Department can help both. The hospital has been conducting sleep studies since 2005, said Sleep Technician Kathy Engelhardt of Hubbard, but the department hasn't had its own space until now. More...

Track began on Thursday, February 26th for the Groesbeck Goats at Riesel. Four individual girls and one girls relay team placed in their side of the meet. For the Groesbeck boys, six boys and three relay teams captured medals. The girls are coached by Alice Keeton. The boys are coached by Ned Barrier. March 6, 1959 THORNTON HAPPY WITH NEW WELL The voters of Thornton voted on December 30, 1958, authority for the City of Thornton to issue $15,000 in bonds for the purpose of drilling a new well east of Thornton for the water department. Drilling got underway soon after the election. More...
The Girls Scouts of Groesbeck visited the new Limestone Medical Center for a fun-filled field trip. The group and some of their parents toured the laboratory, emergency room and a special tour of the EMS ambulance and quarters. The EMT's were on hand to show the troop around the ambulance and give them a few safety tips. The EMT's also did height checks for the troop. The Girl Scout troop was sent home with some goodies from the hospital including pencils, cups and a hospital theme coloring sheet.
