Ashley Mills Takes Pitching Lessons from Bill Hillhouse
      Ashley Mills, an eighth grader at GMS, had pitching lessons with Bill Hillhouse this past weekend in Colleyville, Texas. Ashley is a student of local pitching coach, David Jett. Mr. Hillhouse offers much needed guidance as Ashley prepares to move up to high school softball next year.

Along the River Bank
Now is the time
      If you want to catch a big bass now is the best time of the year to do so. The red bud trees are in the full bloom and the bass are fat and on the spawn. To prove a point we managed to launch the boat in the river. We caught 23 fish up to 6½ lbs. last week. Yours truly caught a 6½ lb. lunker and some over 4 lbs. They turned on pretty good.

Gone fishin'
      The Bass Brigade is coming to Limestone County. Fort Parker State Park will host about 30 kids from across the state this summer as part of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's Texas Brigade project, a wildlife-focused leadership development program for children 13 to 17 years old.

Four Goat cagers All-District
      Groesbeck placed four players on the District 19-3A first two All-District teams. Making the first team was Kevin Waller and Caleb Holbrook. Waller is a sophomore and Holbrook a junior. Making the second team is junior Joel Wells and sophomore Trey Perkins.

Knouse, Kelley win 5K run
      Runners and walkers braved the cold and mist Saturday morning to compete in Limestone Medical Center's Run for the Health of It. Despite the chilly weather, more than 100 people from across the state participate in the event to raise money to fight cancer through Relay for Life.

Goat team tennis is 9th at state
      The continuing rains last week forced the Texas State Team Tennis Tournament to be condensed into a very short version which took slightly over a half day to complete. When it was over, the Groesbeck High team finished ninth overall. The Goats continued their state record streak of playing in every team tennis state tournament since they began 22 years ago.

Let's Read RIDDLE
      What's in a name? Pretty good women coaches if the name happens to be Laura Meizner or Lauren Meisner. Actually the latter's full name is Lauren Longbotham Miesner who we saw at the UIL team tennis state tournament cheering on her dad's team, the Groesbeck Goats. She now, as was mentioned in these pages several issues back, is coaching the SMU women's tennis team.

GHS Golfers Cutting Down Strokes
      Groesbeck's golf teams continued their improvement on the links with two good showings in the last two tournaments. At the Riesel Invitational on March 2, the girls team came in third, only four stokes behind runner-up Riesel. Tobie Taylor was fifth overall with a 105.

District softball wars underway
      Don't look now, but it is time for the Groesbeck Lady Goats to begin playing for a playoff spot in District 19-3A. They begin district at home Friday night hosting Robinson about 6:30. Last week, they lost to Palestine on March 10 in Palestine 7-2. A Friday game at home against Mart got washed away by the heavy rains that hit the area for three days.

Palomin, Pagel power way to state
      For Angel Palomin, the game plan was simple, maintain the status quo and he would be going to the state Powerlifting Meet March 27-28 in Abilene. For Sean Pagel, he had to upset the status quo to make it there. Both Groesbeck lifters followed their individual game plans and qualified for the state meet at the Region II meet at Waco Connally Junior High last Saturday.

Cosby to speak at Victory Bowl Banquet, April 5
      The Heart of Texas' Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be holding their inaugural Victory Bowl Banquet at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Baylor University's Ferrell Center. Players, cheerleaders and coaches in the game will be honored at the event.

Cougars, rain wash out Groesbeck Goats' week
      What the China Spring Cougars did last Monday in beating the Groesbeck Goats at Cougar Field 6-4 couldn't be offset later in the week by winning more games. The Connally Tournament got canceled when heavy rains over several days kept the baseball fields where it was going to be played too wet to be used.
