Pete Lee Retires as Groesbeck Municipal Judge; Michelle Nance Appointed to Post
      At last week's Groesbeck City Council meeting, the Council accepted the letter of retirement from Judge H. D. "Pete" Lee as Groesbeck municipal judge. During the same meeting the Council appointed Michelle Nance, who has served as municipal court clerk since January of 2001, was appointed Groesbeck municipal judge.

First Annual Monty Huffman Memorial Team Roping Event
      The first annual Monty Huffman Memorial Team Roping will be held on Saturday, April 25, at the Robinson Saddle Club in Robinson. Huffman, who died in a car accident on November7, 2008, was 16 years of age and a sophomore at Groesbeck High School at the time of his death.

Limestone County Fairgrounds Is Official Name of New Show Barn Facilty
      At its meeting on Monday, April 13, the Limestone County Commissioners Court approved the name --- Limestone County Fairgrounds -- as the official name of the new Limestone County show barn facility. The facility, which is located near the Limestone County Detention Center in Groesbeck was previously named the Limestone County Expo Center.

4th of July Plans Continue to Develop
      The 4th of July Committee met on last Friday at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Farmers State Bank in Groesbeck and continued to develop plans for the Groesbeck 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, July 4th. Two events will be in downtown Groesbeck. These events will include the Methodist Men's Pancake Breakfast in the MAC building from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

      The Groesbeck City Council attended to a rather lengthy agenda in its regular city council meeting on Tuesday night, April 14, at the Groesbeck City Hall with the meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Mayor Jackie Levingston presided during the meeting with Council members Alta Stone, Alice Thompson, Ronnie Fritz, Randy Bostain, and Kim Harris all present.

LARAS' House buys land
      On Monday, April 21st, Peggy Wilson representing the Limestone Animal Rescue & Adoption Shelter signed for the purchase of five acres of land from Frank Logan. It wll be the future site of the rescue shelter. The land is on Highway 171 about two miles out of Mexia just beyond the recycling center on the northwest side of the highway.

Registration at TSTC
      Registration for summer and fall classes is now underway at Texas State Technical College Waco. Registration hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the Student Services Center on the TSTC campus. Students can register for summer classes until May 7; registration for fall classes will be ongoing throughout most of the summer.

      According to the American Cancer Society, between 1997 and 2004, the percentage of adults who smoke decreased from 27.6% to 23.4% in men and from 22.1% to 18.5% in women.
