SUMMER TENNIS June 25, 30, July 2

Junior tennis clinics will be held at Groesbeck High School. Future Stars, for students 5 to 12, will be from 6:30- 7:30 p.m., and Tournament Stars, for students entering seventh through 12th grades, will be from 7:45-8:45 p.m. The clinics cost $6 a day or $10 a weeks for Groesbeck Tennis Association members and $8 a day or $14 a week. BREAKAWAY ROPING June 25-27

The annual Youth Breakaway Roping competition will be held at 7 p.m. each night prior to the Mexia Rodeo. Ten contestants will compete each night. The entry fee is $25, and the event is limited to children 13 and younger. The first-place winner will receive a buckle and cash. First, second and third places each night also will win money. Register June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce, 405 E. Milam St., Mexia.

MEXIA RODEO June 25-27 The Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its 79th annual Mexia Rodeo at the Mexia Rodeo Grounds. Gates open at 6 p.m. nightly. There will be $13,500 in added money. Saturday night will feature a grand entry by the Heart of Texas Cowgirls. Vendors are welcome -- reserve a booth by June 1. Open events include double mugging, a wild cow milking contest, and mutton busting. Visit the "Best Concession Stand in Texas." Call (254) 562-5569. GROESBECK CAR SHOW Saturday, June 27

Classic Corvettes, hopped-up Mustangs and vintage pickups are a few of the street machines that will be on display at the annual Groesbeck Lions Club event. The show opens at 9 a.m. and awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and children older than 12. Trophies will be awarded in a variety of classes. Registration is $20 in advance and $25 on show day. Register at 8:30 a.m. The first 100 entries will receive event T-shirts. A blood drive also will be held. Call (254) 747-1530.

LANDSFORD-HENRY-SANDIFER REUNION Saturday, June 27 The reunion will begin at 10 a.m. at the Shiloh Community Center. All friends and relatives are invited. Dinner will be served at noon. Bring your own casseroles, vegetables and desserts. Chicken and barbecue will be provided. Bring any games to play. There will be a silent auction this year. Bring items for the auction. UNION-COX CEMETERY MEMORIAL Saturday, June 27

Singing will begin at 10:45 a.m. and a memorial message will be brought by Bill Sutton, minister of Oletha Baptist Church. Bring a picnic lunch to spread at noon and join friends, neighbors and relatives for this time of fellowship and remembrance. The kitchen will be open for those who need to use it. A business meeting will be at 1 p.m.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT June 29

Begins at 7 p.m. at Groesbeck High School tennis courts. Bring your own racquet or one will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Groesbeck Tennis Association.

BLUEGRASS CONCERT Friday, July 3

Karl Shiflett and his Big Country Show will perform a free concert from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at Groesbeck City Park. Other bands also may perform. Bring a lawn chair.

GROESBECK JULY 4TH Saturday, July 4

Groesbeck's Independence Day celebration will include a parade, a pizza-eating contest sponsored by Buck's Pizza, the Methodist Men's pancake breakfast, arts and crafts, free swimming, volleyball and basketball competitions, a Little Miss Fourth of July contest, music by the Morticians, music throughout the afternoon, peach cobbler and ice cream, and fireworks. More details will be announced as they are made available. With the exception of the pancake breakfast and parade, all events will be held at Groesbeck City Park.

FIRECRACKER 5K RUN/1K WALK Saturday, July 4

Registration begins at 7 a.m., the walk starts at 8 a.m. and the race gets under way at 8:15 a.m. at Hughes City Park across from Parkview Regional Hospital. The entry fee is $20 and registrants receive a free T-Shirt. The overall winners, plus first, second and third places in each 10-year age group, starting with 19 and younger, will receive awards. MEXIA CAR SHOW Saturday, July 4 Cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Parkside Full Gospel Church (one block west of Parkview Regional Hospital). Plaques will be presented to category winners and there will be hourly prize drawings. The first 75 registrants will receive event T-shirts and dash plaques. Entry fee is $25 and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Call (254) 562-5569. PEE WEE CHEER REGISTRATION Saturday, July 4

Registration begins for Pee Wee cheerleading from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Park (during Fourth of July celebration). Deadline for registering is Aug. 1. LOST PRAIRIE MEMORIAL Saturday, July 11

Morning services for the Lost Prairie Cemetery Memorial will begin at 10:50 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Afternoon services will begin at 1:15 p.m. The final report will be read and approved, and there will be a discussion about matters related to the cemetery. Officers for the upcoming year will be elected.

THORNTON HOMECOMING July 17-18

This year's activities will include a rode and dance both Friday and Saturday nights. Additional details will be announced in upcoming weeks.

COOLIDGE MINI FESTIVAL Saturday, July 18 A scaled-down version of the Coolidge Mesquite Tree Festival will be held at the Coolidge Civic Center. YOUTH FISHING Saturday, July 18 A free fishing tournament will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lake Limestone Campground and Marina. More details will be announced in the near future.
