The Editor's Corner

By Tom Hawkins

This Saturday, July 4, the United States of America will celebrate Independence Day. The type of celebration will vary in the various communities.

As will be noted in this week's Journal Groesbeck will have a big Fourth of July celebration on Friday night and all day Saturday. The various events will be found in this week's Journal.

As American citizens, we should observe this very special day with all of the traditional picnics, parades, fireworks, family gatherings, etc.

However, as we celebrate we should be mindful of the true reason for the holiday. Everyone must remember "Freedom is not free." The freedom and liberty which we enjoy was purchased at a great price by many brave individuals from the time of the American Revolution War up to the present time. American men and women have answered the call to protect our precious freedom through many conflicts and through many years.

One should go by the Limestone County Veterans' Monument at the Courthouse to remem- ber those from this county who paid the supreme sacrifice for the United States of America in the wars and military conflicts of the 20th century.

This Saturday, as we celebrate the Fourth of July, let's pause for a moment of silence to remember those who gave their lives and service for this great nation.

The Journal is proud to publish a very nice letter in this week's Journal from Kim Hatley, the wife of MSG John Hatley.

The Journal recently ran a story on Hatley's current ordeal. Please see the letter elsewhere in this week's Journal.
