Mary L. Jones
Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 27, 2009 in the Haynes Memo- rial Church Of God In Christ, 601 N. Denton Street, Mexia where Elder C. D. Washington is pastor. Elder Sammie L. Thomas, pastor of Sandy Church Of God In Christ, was the eulogist. Interment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hwy 84 in Mexia. Mary L. Jones was born May 25, 1949 in Mexia and attended the Dunbar-Douglas Schools and was baptized in the New Home Missionary Baptist Church, Mexia by Rev. Sheffield. She married L. L. Stidom in Demmit, Texas, has lived in Amarillo before moving back to Mexia. Mary has worked at the Mexia Nursing Home, was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Parkview Regional Hospital, Sunday School Secretary and Choir member at the Sandy Church Of God In Christ, and secretary of the Women's Department in the West District Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Superintendent O. Z. Hall. Mrs. Jones completed the requirements for licensure as a Missionary in the Church Of God In Christ endorsed by The Rt. Rev. Newell J. Haynes, Bishop of the Churches of God In Christ. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid fan of all sports, especially football. She is preceded in death by her father. Those left to cherish her memory are: her son, Anthony and Barbara Stidom, Amarillo; her mother, Febie Menter, Mexia; two brothers: Bobby Jean Jones, Amarillo, and Gene Autry Jones, Amarillo; two sisters: Alice Fay Adams, Mexia; Dorothy Nell Black, Glendale, Arizona; three grandchildren; two aunts: Mary Johnson and Rachel Johnson both of Mexia; a special friend: Gloria Jean Guy, Plainview; and a host of other relatives and friends.
