Alvon Ray "Boe" Pierce

Alvon Ray (A.R.) "Boe" Pierce, of the Lost Prairie community near Groesbeck, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Providence Hospital in Waco, at age 77.

Services were held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 29, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Clifton Jones officiating. Burial followed at Lost Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry Stefka, Royce Williams, Nealon Williams, Joe Williams, James Williams, and J. T. Vickery. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Langford, Rick Herndon, Gladmon Ratcliff, Tom Tedder, and Jerry Shields.

A. R. was born May 18, 1932 to Horace Lee Pierce and Dixie Morene (Folmar) Pierce at Winnsboro, Texas. He lived in the Brazosport area most of his life and graduated from Freeport High School. He served in the 82nd. Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, from 1951 to 1954.

While in the Army, he met Wanda Yvonne Williams, and they were united in marriage on March 12, 1954, in Clute. He later obtained an Associates Degree from Alvin Jr. College. " Boe" worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and retired as District Plant Manager in 1990, after 40 years of service. In his career with the telephone company, Boe and Yvonne lived in various locations in Texas, as well as 2 years in St. Louis, Missouri. They moved to Limestone County in 1999, to the property they owned at Lost Prairie. He enjoyed working in his woodshop, listening to music, working in his garden, and most importantly, being with his family.

A. R. was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Pierce; and twin sisters, Millie and Lillie Pierce.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Pierce of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Siler of Beaumont; daughter, Janice Pierce of Irving; son, Kenneth Pierce of El Paso; grandson, Brennan Pierce of El Paso; granddaughter, Shelley and her husband Keith Varnado of Beaumont; and granddaughter, Sarah Siler of Beaumont.
