Attention Thornton Folks: The history of Thornton has been completed; book to go on sale soon

(Journal photo/David Stone) Thornton, One Small Town in Texas, a two volume set of over 1,000 pages soon will be available. The book has been compiled and edited by GAnn Smith-Tilley and Robbie Thames-Ahlfinger. This labor of love by these two former Thornton ladies has taken several years for this publication to become a reality.

The cost of the two volume set is $45 which includes tax.

The book will be available for sale on July 17, in Groesbeck and at the Thornton Homecoming on July 18.

Robbie Thames-Ahlfinger will be in charge of sales. She will have a table set up in front of Groesbeck Arts and Crafts Gallery at 101 N. Ellis (location of the old Evans Corner Drug) in Groesbeck on Friday, July 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. She will be in Thornton on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. near the post office.

Thornton, One Small Town in Texas is a historical overview and pictorial of Thornton in a two volume paperback set. Volume one covers 1836 to 1949, and volume two covers 1950 to 2008. Each volume contains approximately 500 pages and a multitude of pictures.

If you are interested in purchasing a set in July in Groesbeck Thornton, please bring cash or money order; no personal checks will be accepted at those times.

Books may also be purchased through the mail. If you would like to purchase the book, and want it mailed to you, you may do so by calling 254-756-3905. Leave your name and number, your call will be returned. Cost will be $45, plus postage.
