Scholarship Fund in memory of James Ryan Bates
      A scholarship fund has been set up at the Farmers State Bank in memory of little James Ryan Bates. This scholarship will be given to the Groesbeck graduating students of 2221 who were in the 2009 kindergarten class of Ms. Schneider's Spiders.

      The Texas Education Agency released the accountability ratings for the school districts of the state late last week. The Groesbeck Independent School District received a rating of academically acceptable according to Karon Golden, GISD Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Office of Rural Community Affairs becomes Texas Department of Rural Affairs September 1st
      AUSTIN — The state agency dedicated to rural Texas will have a new name as of September 1, 2009, thanks to legislation authored by Representative Drew Darby and carried in the Senate by Senator Craig Estes. The law changes the name of the Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) to the Texas Department of Rural Affairs (TDRA). The agency's URL will become www.tdra.

      The Limestone County Grand Jury returned 31 indictments when it met on July 31. The indictments are as follows: Robert Wayne Abbott, sexual assault of a child, $50,000 bond. Michael Lynn Abor, Jr., possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, $25,000 bond.
