Lawmakers add 154 new jobs at ex-state school

Action taken during this year's Texas legislative session set the stage for the Mexia State Supported Living Center to be a vital part of Limestone County's economy for years to come, U.S. Rep. Strong winds produced by a thunderstorm that swept across Limestone County on Sunday evening toppled trees and damaged at least one home. Lynae Miyer, a meteorologist for KCEN-TV, said the damage likely was called by straight-line or downburst winds rather than a tornado. More...

Maxine (Stone) and Travis Smith of Abilene will observe their 60th wedding anniversary on September 10th. The couple was honored last Saturday at the Shirley and Charlie Stone Reunion by their family with a special cake and a money tree. They were married in Groesbeck on September 10, 1954. The Limestone County Fairgrounds is quickly gaining a reputation as the place in East Central Texas for roping events and children's rodeos. Two of the largest youth rodeo associations in America -- Little Britches and Texas Youth Ranch Rodeos -- have events scheduled at the Longbridge Road facility this fall, Fairgrounds Manager Kenneth Ellis said Friday. CHICKEN SPAGHETTI Friday, Aug. 28 Groesbeck High School's Class of 2012 will have a chicken spaghetti dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. and concluding at 7 p.m. The dinner will be held at the high school before the Groesbeck vs. Madisonville football game. Groesbeck will open its football season with a home game versus Madisonville this Friday at 7:30 p.m. Head coach Greg Morgan and the Mustangs finished last season with a 3-6 record but defeated Groesbeck 24-13 in Madisonville in both schools' season opener. Sometime during the past weekend, vandals removed one of the 'babies' from the statue that was placed at the entrance of the City Park just this summer. Everyone who goes to the park enjoyed the statue. There have been calls and people commenting on the 'baby' being gone. The small kids around town especially like the statue. More...
