Mustangs first up for hungry Goats
      Groesbeck will open its football season with a home game versus Madisonville this Friday at 7:30 p.m. Head coach Greg Morgan and the Mustangs finished last season with a 3-6 record but defeated Groesbeck 24-13 in Madisonville in both schools' season opener. The Mustangs did not win a single away game last season.

Offense shines in Mart scrimmage
      The Groesbeck varsity football team took to the turf at home last Thursday in a scrimmage against the Mart Panthers. The Goats, already showing improvements from last year, displayed further progress from the Pigskin Jamboree on August 15.

Along The River Bank
River ramp is still closed
      If you plan to fish the Navasota River from the river ramp at Ft. Parker, you will have to wait a few more days. The forms for the concrete are about made, but I think they are waiting a day or two more so the river will be a bit lower. I was there Monday at noon and they still have to pour concrete and let it set up before it will be ready.

Lady Goats fall to Leon
      The Lady Goats were back in action this week hosting Leon on Tuesday. The Lady Goats had lost to the Lady Cougars to open the season and were hoping to come out with a win at home. The Lady Cougars jumped out quick in the first game with a 25-13 win, the Lady Goats fought back and made it close in the second but lost 23-25.

SMU Coach named Top 25 in DFW
      Southern Methodist University tennis coach Lauren Longbotham-Meisner has been named one of the Top 25 most interesting people in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area. Longbotham- Meisner joins DFW personalities such as T Boone Pickens, Nolan Ryan, Erykah Badu, T.D. Jakes and Josh Hamilton on the list for 2009.

      Groesbeck Softball League will have its annual meeting to elect officers on Sunday, August 30th at Swick's BBQ at 4:30 p.m. To be an official voting member, your child must have completed the 2009 softball season.

      The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association will honor the 1974 Groesbeck Goat football team and the 1984 Lady Goat basketball team at homecoming this year. All members and friends of these teams are cordially invited to attend.

Subvarsity Lady Goats play in Gatesville tourney
      The JV Lady Goats started action this week at home against Milford's Varsity and won the match in three straight games. They turned around Tuesday to play Leon at home and lost 17-25, 12-25. Then the Lady Goats attended the Gatesville tournament over the weekend where they beat the 5A Harker Heights team in three games 25-19, 23-25, 15-14.

Local Racers Qualify for Divisional Bracket Finals.
      Junior drag racers Will WInn and Bradley Wilson have qualified to compete at the NHRA Division 4, Junior Bracket Finals sponsored by Pepper Express. The races will cover two days and will be held at Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Texas.
