Goats stumble in opener
Turnovers give Mustangs early advantage in season opener
      The Groesbeck High School varsity football team got its first taste of season play last Friday at Groesbeck Stadium versus Madisonville High School. The Mustangs controlled the game early and stifled a Groesbeck comeback in the fourth quarter to beat the Goats in the season opener, 35-28.

Groesbeck city councilman is Teague head coach
      Sometimes a coach is the last to know. Take Kim Harris, for instance. When he left for Europe last month with his family, he was assistant at Teague High. But while he was gone, the reins to the Lions football program were passed to him.

The Top Three
      The ramp at Ft. Parker is still closed- due to a weak bridge on Road 28. The ramp at the river at Ft. Parker has been delayed. I will keep you informed as of the progress is still on going. It is too hot to fish much anyway. The Mexia Bass Club voted to fish Waco Lake for September regular tournament. They start fishing at 6:00 a.m. and weigh in at 3:00 p.m.

Young Goats edge Mustangs
      Goat Football started this week with the freshmen playing on Thursday. The team of 37 traveled to Madisonville to play the Mustangs. Madisonville jumped out quickly, ending the first quarter with a 6-0 lead. The Goats fired back in the second with Michael Adams catching a touchdown pass from Kline Wiley.

Lady Goats fall to Taylor, beat Temple
      The Lady Goats Volleyball team continued their preseason play this week starting in Taylor on Tuesday. The action was close and intense with the Lady Goats losing the first two games 23-25 and 24-26. They were able to rally back and win games three and four 25-20 and 25-21 respectively. In the end, Groesbeck fell with a score of 5-15 in the fifth game.
