The Groesbeck High School varsity football team lost more than the game in last Friday night’s match up with Connally High School. The Goats played some of their best football all season until a fight broke out in the third quarter. Groesbeck had five players ejected and the players and fans left Connally Stadium with a bitter taste in their mouths as the team dropped to 1-7. More ... The Lady Goat volleyball team had an excellent week bringing their district record up to 5-4. This puts them in a position where if they win Tuesday’s match against Robinson they will force a playoff for the third spot in district and a chance to move on to the playoffs. More ... The Groesbeck Freshmen football got back into action Thursday night here at Groesbeck Stadium. For one of the first times in their careers the young Goats got to play under the lights of the stadium. With the Middle School teams unable to play in Connally due to weather the games were moved here and the Freshmen game did not start until after 7. More ... The GMS Cross-Country team competed in Crawford on Saturday, Oct. 17th. For the girls, Haley Griggs was the top finisher placing 4th, and Hailye Reynolds came in 14th. Skyler Weishuhn, Meagan McLean and Morgan McQueen also ran well. The team placed 3rd overall. On the boys side, Jacob Smith place 8th. Tristan Rash and Devin Kozak showed great improvement in their times. More ... The 7th/8th “gray” volleyball team lost a close match to Mexia, 12-25, 25-20, 14-16. Shelby Dickerson was the leading scorer with 11 made serves and 1 ace. Emily Jones added 6 points with 5 aces. Shelby Morgan, Shelia Waddle, Elena Luna, and Rachel Marler also scored points in the match. Rebecca Shaeffer contributed with great passing, and Selena Sanchez had 1 kill. More ... As I remember, I was fishing the State Bass Tournament on Toledo Bend Lake. More ... The 7th grade Red team defeated Mexia 19-25, 25-14, 25-15. Micaela Gallagher had an outstanding night of passing and added 5 points in serving. Maricela Cruz had a great game with 2 kills and 2 points. Bailey Johnson showed outstanding hustle with 2 points and 1 dig. More ... The 7th grade lost to Mexia 13-25, 11-25. Leading servers for the team were Kaitlyn Curbow with 5, Raven Kirven and Morgan Erskine each had 3. Mackenzie Sexton had 1 kill and Morgan Srader had 1 ace and 1 kill. The 8th grade lost a close match but played well. The scores were 21-25, 26-24, 20-25. Every single player made contributions and played well. More ... |
