Fort to host dinner, John Wayne movie

By Tom Hawkins

Many readers remember the tremendous acting and wonderful Western movies of the great John Wayne.

You can relive some of those days at the first dinner and movie night at Old Fort Parker this Saturday night, Nov. 7, with the event starting at 6 p.m. in the Old Fort.

This will be a family night with a catered meal and a movie. Tickets will be $25 for adults and $10 for children.

The event is being sponsored by the Old Fort Parker Historical Society. The group plans to have a movie and dinner periodically and decided it would be appropriate to launch this series with a movie starring the great John Wayne. Since it is a John Wayne movie, everyone is invited to wear western outfits.

The meal will be catered by The Chicken Place of Marlin. Danny Vickers and his Chicken Place crew are well know caterers and will feature a delicious meal.

In addition to the movie and dinner, the Old Fort Parker Historical Society will also be selling tickets for a drawing for a 40 inch flat screen Sony TV. The raffle tickets will be $5 each or five for $20. The drawing will held on Saturday night at the movie-dinner night. One need not be present to win.

All proceeds will benefit Old Fort Parker.
