      This is the last few days for our Food Drive! Please help all that you can, we need as much food as possible. The drive is this Friday, Nov. 20, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The drop off point is located at 310 Navasota across the street from the Police Station. Our pantry is very low, and we feed your neighbors.

      After having received a special invitation from Admiral Ron Hays, USN Ret., to be his guest at the recently opened Museum of the Pacific on Ford Island in Hawaii, I decided to accept. Ford Island, of course, was the target of the Japanese on December 7th, 1941. It also was my home base while serving in the Navy for about three years.

TBW to have grocery basket raffle
Meeting to be held Wed., Nov. 18th
      It’s that time of year again! The Texas Business Women of Limestone County are selling raffle tickets for the Grocery Basket Raffle. Proceeds from the raffle go to the TBW Scholarship Fund. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The drawing will be held on Saturday, December 5th during the Mexia Christmas Bazaar.

      The Texas Association of Single Adults, Waco Chapter, will have a singles dance on Sunday, November 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. at V.F.W. 725, Sun Valley Blvd., Hewitt, Exit 328 off I-35. Music will be by the Bradshaw Band. Admission is $5.00 for members and $7.00 for visitors.

Teresa Price now serves LC veterans
      Limestone County veterans have a new friend to help them take advantage of the benefits they deserve. Teresa Price, a retired Navy lieutenant who served America for 24 years, has been named Limestone County’s veterans service officer. She started her new position Oct. 19 and will replace retiring service officer Bob Ray.

      It’s going to be a merry time in downtown Mexia. The annual Mistletoe, Music & Magic Christmas Market & Holiday Festival begins its three-day run on Thursday, Dec. 3. Most of the events, including the Market & Food Court, will be held in and around the Mexia Civic Center.

      The Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce met for its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 12, in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. The meal was provided by Longbotham Furniture. The Groesbeck Holiday Gift Show (Arts & Crafts) Show and Citywide Garage Sale, both of which were held on last Saturday, were discussed.

Chautauqua to feature Civil War-era music
      A two-hour holiday Chautauqua and Coffee featuring 1800s music will be held Sunday, Dec. 6, at Confederate Reunion Grounds State Historic Site. Members of “Time Was,” a group of musical historians that focuses on music from the Civil War, will perform and speak on instruments of that era. Band members perform in period attire.
