High School Football Playoffs
      Lorena was the only District 19AAA team to advance to the third round of the high school football playoffs as Mexia and LaVega fell in the second round of the playoffs this past weekend. The playoff schedule for area teams for this weekend is given below: Class 3A, Division II -- Lorena vs. Coldspring-Oakhurst, 7:30 p.m., Friday at A&M Consolidated.

GHS hosts subvarsity tourney
     The Groesbeck Girls Basketball team hosted a Freshmen and JV tournament this week. It was a two day tournament with seven teams: Lorena, China Spring, Mexia, Buffalo, Crockett, Fairfield, and the Lady Goats JV. Coach Lisa O’Kelley said “ Since I have been here, we haven’t hosted a tournament of any kind, so it is a good start.

Freshmen Goats beat Cameron
      Basketball season was off and moving at a quick pace for the subvarsity boys this week. They began on Thursday November 19th with a tournament in Whitney. The JV played the home team and lost. The freshmen were also at the tournament and started off with Cameron. They won 39-17.

JV tennis continues to improve
      Groesbeck JV tennis has had two more matches. On November 10th they played Ennis and November 17th they played Corsicana. Coach Longbotham was very pleased with the play of the boys doubles in both outings and feels the girls continue to improve with experience.

Lady Goats fall to Madisonville
      The Varsity Lady Goats had only one game this week so lets take the opportunity to introduce the young team. The team has three seniors Cassie Anders, Tamara Lee and Elisa Halford. Anders is the returning point guard and leader for the team. Ashley Sutton and Laura Balderas are juniors.

China Spring tops Goats
      Running Goat Basketball started this week. They began on Tuesday November 17th in China Spring. The day proved to have unexpected twists and turns for the Goat team. They found out they were losing two of the seniors and that young players were going to step in and fill the shoes. So a slightly discouraged and maybe a little disoriented Goat team showed up in China Spring.
