Ground-breaking ceremony set for new airport terminal

Facility on Highway 14 should be completed by early summer
By David Stone

A crew from Rieselbased Don Jackson Construction Co. will begin work on a new terminal building next week at Limestone County Airport.

The county and Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division will hold a ground-breaking ceremony Monday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.

The airport is located on Highway 14 near Forest Glade.

Construction on the 3,000-square-foot, singlelevel project should be completed by early summer, according to County Judge Daniel Burkeen.

The new terminal will house a conference room and a pilot’s lounge with showers, televisions and access to weather information.

Work on the new terminal will include building a new parking lot and a short driveway connecting the new parking lot with existing roads.

Judge Burkeen said many companies who do business in Limestone County use the airport, and some are even conducting business there.

He said pilots often have to wait at the airport for hours.

The new terminal would give them a place to rest and relax while corporate executives are tending to business.

“Sometimes these pilots have to wait at the airport for 10 or 12 hours,” he said.

“In the future they will have a place to unwind or take a shower,” Judge Burkeen said.

He said many business executives are flying into Limestone County rather than driving.

“The airport is a vital part of our economy, and a quality airport is essential for growth,” Judge Burkeen said.
