Election day is March 2nd! Early voting by personal appearance for the March 2nd primary election starts February 16 and ends February 26. The 2010 elections include races on the county, state, and federal levels. The governor’s race highlights the contested statewide races while several U. S. Representatives races are on the ballot. Locally, the District 17 congressional race is viewed as a key race as five Republican candidates are seeking the GOP nomination to face longtime incumbent Congressman Chet Edwards, Democrat, in the general election in November. In the District 6 Congressional race, Congressman Joe Barton is unopposed in the Republican primary while Democrat David E. Cozad is unopposed in the Democratic Primary. On the county level several positions are to be elected. Candidates seeking county positions in the Limestone County Democratic Primary election are as follows: County Judge, Elenor Holmes; County Clerk, Peggy Beck; District Clerk, Carol Jenkins; County Treasurer, Carol Bostain; County Commissioner Precinct 2, William (Pete) Kirven, Billy Waldrop, Jr.; County Commissioner, Precinct 4, Milton Carroll, Tammie Reed McKamie; Justice of Peace Precinct 2, Marcus Hanna; Justice of Peace Precinct 2, Freda “Cookie” Gremminger; Justice of Peace Precinct 3, Sherri LeNoir; Justice of Peace Precinct 4, Ray Jones. Candidates seeking county positions in the Limestone County Republican Primary election are as follows: County Judge, Daniel Burkeen; County Commissioner Precinct 2, Don Corbitt; County Commissioner Precinct 4, Bobby Forrest, Joey Cherry. Deborah Oakes Evans is running unopposed for district judge of the 87th Judicial District. In the District 5 State Senate race candidates in the Republican primary are Steve Ogden and Ben Bius. Stephen M. Wyman is unopposed in the Democratic primary in the District 5 State Senate race. |
