Ruth Idell Doss

Ruth “Blackie” Doss went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Denison Manor in Denison, Texas. She was 83 years old.

Blackie was born on April 9 , 1 9 2 6 in Thornton, Texas to Albert Jefferson Faulkne r and Jess ie Lee O’Neal Faulkner along with one twin sister, Ruby Izell. She spent her childhood in Kosse. As a young woman she worked at Cayton Drug Store in Groesbeck where she met Alfred Marion Doss who worked at the movie theater across the street. On August 13, 1946 they were married in Kosse. She spent her days as a loving housewife and mother to her son, Bud, and her twin daughters Linda Kaye and Brenda Faye. They lived in several places as they traveled for Marion’s job with the railroad before settling in Sherman.

After Marion’s death in 1982, Blackie moved back to Groesbeck and lived there for many years until moving to Sherman i n 1 9 9 9 . Througho ut the years, she has been featured in the newspaper many times for her artwork, cake decorating, and yard work including “Bird Town” where she created a haven for birds out of children’s dollhouses. She loved life, music and dancing, and her laugh was contagious.

Blackie is survived by her son Alfred “Bud” Doss Jr. and wife Patty of Box Church; daughter Linda Barron and husband Carl of Van Alstyne; daughter Brenda Cato of Sherman; grandchildren June Dobbins, Alfred Doss III, Dana Condron, Bobby Pierce, Nick Pierce, Steven Allen, Jesse Brown, and Ashley Doss; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Ruby Izell Cargile.
