Lady Goats fall twice

By Kelly Ihler

The Lady Goats began the second half of district 19-3A play this week. They started the week on Tuesday playing the defending state champion Robinson Lady Rockets in the Goat gymnasium.

The Lady Goats seemed to be executing their plays and breaks very well during the game but struggled to convert the hard work onto the scoreboard. At the end of the first half the Lady Goats were down 10-36. The final score at the end of the night was Robinson 61, Groesbeck 19.

DeShontay Jackson led scoring with 6 points, 4 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Lauren Waller added 3 points. The remainder of the team each scored 2 points, Juanita Nino, BJ Neal, Cassie Anders, Tazia Medlock and Tamara Lee.

On Friday the Groesbeck team traveled to Lorena to take on another tough opponent, the number 13 ranked Lady Leopards. The Lady Goats struggled against the strong team and lost again 18-68. Jackson scored 8 points on the night. Anders added another 5. Medlock and Waller each had 2 points and Neal hit 1free throw.

The JV team lost both games this week as well. Ashley Sutton led the Goats offensive attack in the loss to Robinson. Shanice Wickware led the team in scoring with 5 points against the LadyLeopards.

The Lady Goats have three more district games in the season. They take on Connally at home on Tuesday, February 2nd. On Friday they will be at home again vs. the La Vega Lady Pirates. The Lady Goats finish out the season against the rival Lady Blackcats in Mexia on Tuesday the 9th.
