Groesbeck Goat football practice begins Monday
      The fall football practice for the 2010 Groesbeck Goat football team will begin this Monday, August 2. Practice will begin at 4:30 p.m. However, all boys are requested to report at 3:30 p.m. on the first day.H ead Coach Steve Burrow reminds all players to be sure to have their physicals.

Buzz Lightning 12U wins Nations National Championship!
      Buzz Lightning 12U baseball team won the Nations National Championship for the Mid-South Region. The Buzz beat Pearland 5-4 in the first of what would have been the final two games. The Buzz won all their tournament games up to the final so the final game against Pearland was not needed to win the tournament. The tournament was held in Beaumont, Texas at Ford Park on turf fields.

Seven Groesbeck Boys Baseball Teams Advanced to District Playoffs
      The Groesbeck Youth Baseball League is proud to announce that seven Groesbeck Teams advanced to District Tournament play during the week of July 12th. Each team earned the right to advance by placing first or second in their division. The top team in each tournament will then advance to the State Tournament during the week of July 26th.

Lady Goat Volleyball Practice to start Aug. 2
      Terry White, head volleyball coach at Groesbeck High School, states that the Lady Goat fall volleyball practice will start on Monday, August 2. Coach White instructed the girls to have current physical and other paperwork when they report on August 2. He added, “We will begin the 2010 volleyball workouts on that date.”

High School Cross Country Starts Aug. 2nd
      The High School Cross Country teams, boys and girls, will begin their workouts on Aug. 2nd. The teams will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the back of the High School by the weight room and be done by 8:00 a.m. All athletes must have a physical exam before they can participate. Bring your completed physical form with you. Come dressed to run and bring your own water.

Goat Scramble in Mart
      The 25th Annual Groesbeck Athletic Goat Scramble is July 31st at the Battlelake Golf Course in Mart. Tee off is at 8:00. Cost is $60.00 each and that includes a BBQ meal. Team to Compete n World Series
      FIRE & ICE 14U Class Softball team is competing in the 2010 USSSA 14 Under A World Series in Chesterfield, MO., July 27- August 1. The team placed 2nd in the San Marcos Mother’s Day Tournament, 2nd in the ASA District Qualifier, and 2nd in the National’s Warm Up in Grand Prairie, Tx.

6th Annual Kids Fish Derby is big success
      The 6th annual Kid Fish Derby was held at Lake Limestone Campground and Marina on Saturday, July 17. Texas 99.1 radio station in Fairfield sponsors the annual event. They provide bait, tackle and food. Additionally, over $5,000 in shirts, trophies and prizes are given away. This year, over 300 fish were caught. Many youngsters caught their first fish.

Along The River Bank
Program Slated
      The Mexia Bass Club will meet on Tuesday night the 27th and eat dinner at 6 p.m. After dinner they will hear a speech from a bass angler from Falcon Lake near the Mexican border. He will talk to the Club on how to keep fish alive at the weigh-in that have been caught in deep water. It will be a nice night out for the bass club families that are all invited to come and hear the speech.
