Scheduling Swift teams recipe for success in other sports
Next year when the coaching schools are in full swing, one of the most sought after persons at the schools might be Groesbeck girls basketball coach Darin Swift. That’s because one of the unusual paths to athletic success for a school’s athletic programs in other sports such as football and volleyball is to schedule girls’ basketball games with the Lady Goats through Swift. That was the push that seemed to work for McGregor, Cayuga and Teague. All three of those teams were inked onto the Lady Goats JV and varsity schedules during the week of November 13 through November 16. Then McGregor’s girls went deep in the volleyball playoffs and canceled their game anticipating they might go to the state volleyball tournament. For Cayuga, they had both their volleyball and football teams advancing in the playoffs and cancelled their games. Finally, Teague made it to the playoffs and cancelled their tournament they were supposed to host November 15 7 17 as well as their trip to Groesbeck for Friday games. Since the Goats were also in football on that day, Swift would have ended up cancelling the games anyway. Anyway, there it is coaches of schools around the area, if you want to achieve athletic success in other sports, just have the girls coach schedule games with Groesbeck that will have to be cancelled once that success is achieved.
This week, the Lady Goats played Trinity at home Monday and Franklin on the road Tuesday. They travel to Gatesville next Tuesday, November 27. Both the varsity and junior varsity will play in games beginning at 5:00 p.m. The JV plays first and the varsity immediately thereafter.
