- Memorial Services Held Feb. 14 For Davie Ann Browder
Davie Ann Browder of Groesbeck passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008 in Providence Hospital in Waco.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Bellomy officiating.
Davie Ann was born on January 30, 1947 in Groesbeck, Texas. She graduated from Groesbeck High School Class of 1965. She was a journalist.
She was currently employed at Insurance Licensing Service of America in Groesbeck.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Davie (Means) Browder.
She is survived by her son David Browder LaFoy of Huntsville, TX and a host of friends.

Memorial Services Held Feb. 16 for Corey Lee Ash
Corey Lee Ash, the firstborn of Gil and Annie Ash entered this walk called life on May 15, 1972 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and most recently resided in Loraine, Texas.
Memorial service were held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Gil Ash officiating.
He is survived by his parents and his brother Jason Bret Ash and wife Dalyn (and nephew John Kimbell to arrive soon); grandparents, John and Marguerite Ash, John and Janet Kelley as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, co-workers and more friends than even he was aware of.
Corey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from San Angelo State University of Texas. He had taught and coached across Texas with his closing assignment with the Loraine ISD. Corey was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Colorado City, Texas playing bass guitar in the praise band.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Ione Kelly, wife of John Kelly.
Having battled a disease process and pain for 27 years he left that behind to be with his Savior and other saints on February 11, 2008.

Graveside Services Held Feb. 17 for Pete Dick
Pete Dick of Groesbeck passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Temple VA Hospital.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday, February 17, in the Faulkenberry Cemetery with Bro. Richard Williams and Gerald Gibson officiating.
Pete was born to Jake Daniel and Laura (Ridge) Dick in Limestone County on February 23, 1931. He was self employed as a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eugene, Eddy and Marion Dick.
Pete is survived by his sister, Juanita Herford and her husband Jim of Sour Lake; nephews, Danny Bourgeois and wife Brenda of Lumberton, Mark Bourgeois and wife Tammie of Blue Ridge, Gary Dick and wife Kandy of Junction, nieces, Gloria Franklin and husband Jack of Pearland, Janet Stone and Laura Dick of Groesbeck; nephew, Glen Dick of Groesbeck; sister-in-law, Theresa Dick of Groesbeck; special friend, Susie Ibarra of Groesbeck; and a host of great friends who met daily at the coffee shop.
Pallbearers were be Danny Bourgeois, Mark Bourgeois, Gary Dick, Jack Franklin, Gen Dick and Orien Little.
Honorary Pallbearers were Leonard Mills, Jack Rasco, Elbert Ingram and Rand Bates.

Bradford Garber Funeral Services Held Feb. 17
Funeral services for Bradford Royce (Brad) Garber, 43 of Forest Glade were held Sunday, February 17, 2008 in the First Presbyterian Church in Mexia. Rev. Kenneth E. Lane III and Rev. Tom Prentiss officiated with interment following in the Forest Glade Cemetery.
Brad was born November 21, 1964 in Mexia to Mary Louise and Claude Alden (Tennessee) Garber and passed away on February 14, 2008. He lived all of his life in Forest Glade, graduated Mexia High School in class of 1983 and was employed by Mexia Independent School District in maintenance department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexia.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lynn Garber, of Forest Glade, father, Claude Alden (Tennessee) Garber of Forest Glade, children, Jennifer Rorick and Will Kelly of Sugarland, Toni Rorick of Huntsville and Lee Garber of Mexia; grandchildren, Bryce Lide of Huntsville and Landon Kelley of Sugarland, brothers and sisters, Alden Garber and wife, Sharon of Tehuacana, Romelda Moffett of Forest Glade, Audrey (Sissie) Ingram and husband, Jimbo of Tehuacana, Aubrey (Bubba) Garber of Mexia and Andrea Ingram and husband, Alan of Mexia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Garber in 2000.

Edna Earle Hall Funeral Services Held Feb. 17
Funeral Services for Edna Earle Hall, 81, of Groesbeck, were held Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Capps Memorial Chapel with Bro. Louis Simpson officiating. Burial followed at Dew Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall was born on June 10, 1926 in West Columbia, Texas to Nora Camplin and Rex C. Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, CR Hall.
She is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Johnson and husband Donald of Groesbeck; son, Clifton Hall of Houston; sister, Virginia Sealy and husband Leon of Schnectady, NY; grandchildren: Amy McGilvray and husband Joseph of Groesbeck, Lara Alewine and husband Marc of Houston, Joseph Hall of Houston; great-grandchildren: Logan and Ethan McGilvray, Samuel Alewine.
Pallbearers were her nephews.

James L. Person Funeral Services Held Feb. 15
Funeral services for Mr. James L. “Lefty” Person, 80, of Mexia were held on Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Blair-Stubbs funeral home chapel in Mexia. Reverend Rick Gray and Reverend James Hooper officiated at the service and the interment followed in the Mexia cemetery.
Mr. Person was born August 7, 1927 in Mexia to Lester R. and Rachel Johnson Person. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. By trade Mr. Person was a pipeliner, an occupation that he enjoyed for many years. It was in the pipeline business that he was nicknamed “Lefty”, being a left handed welder. Mr. Person was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia, having actually helped to build the current sanctuary.
Mr. Person was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 + years, Marie and by 2 sisters, Wanda and Weta.
Survivors include his children, Terry Person of Mexia, Barbara Shamblin and husband James David of Mexia and Stephen Person and wife, Ruth Ann of Conroe. Grandchildren, Keri Lynn Allen and husband Brandon of Mexia, David Cory Shamblin of Streetman, Hannah Marie Person of Conroe. Great Grandchildren, Bradley Mitchell Bailey, Benjamin Lucas Bailey, Cole Allen and Taylor Ryanne Allen. Brother, Dick Person and his wife Violet of George West and Sister, Mary Evelyn Brown of Mexia.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Person, Michael Denton, Brandon Allen, Cory Shamblin, Pat Walsh and Bill Bailey. Honorary Pallbearers were Harold Gene Wells, Ivan Neal Jackson and John Henry Fisher.

Troy Rice Funeral Services Held Feb. 15
Charles Troy Rice a well known Groesbeck resident passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Windsor Nursing Home where he had resided since 2005.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Williams officiating.
Troy was born on October 15, 1916 in Groesbeck, Texas to Charlie Tom and Millie (Fleming) Rice. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mildred and by a brother Dwain Rice.
He was a veteran of World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton’s Company B 750th Tank Battalion. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star metal for bravery.
Most residents met Troy during his many years of employment at Ferguson Chevrolet from which he retired in 1979 as a body shop foreman. He was known locally as an avid coon hunter. Among many awards he achieved for coon hunting was the Texas State Championship.
Survivors include his daughter Ann Layton and husband Gwen of Arlington; grandson Gary Layton and wife Lisa, great grandson Alex Layton and great granddaughter Joy Layton all of Arlington; sisters Bernice Murphy of Temple and Charlene Black of Humble; nephews Don Murphy of Temple, Joe Murphy of San Benito, Curtis Black of Humble and Phil Rice of Stockton, CA.
Memorials may be made to Groesbeck Church of Christ, P.O. Box 512, Groesbeck, TX 76642, of which Mr. Rice was a member.

Flora B. Sharp Funeral Services Held Feb. 18
Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Bell Moncrief Sharp, 95 of Thornton were held February 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Blair – Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel in Thornton with Rev. Tracy Sims officiating. Interment followed in Kosse Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharp was born April 30, 1912 in Kosse to Henry Arthur and Myrtle Susan (Waller) Moncrief and passed away on February 16, 2008 in Desoto, Texas.
As a young girl going to school in Kosse, she and her brothers and sisters would ride in her father’s Model T. That Model T was still in use in the early 1950s. On October 16, 1933 she married Emory Sharp whom she met in a cotton patch and fell in love. They lived in Limestone County all their lives. Mrs. Sharp enjoyed fishing and crocheting. She went to work for the Mexia State School in 1957 and her first paycheck was $124.00 for the whole month. At first she was going to quit her job, but when she got home and saw the dried up cotton patch, she continued to work for the next 20 years. She retired on March 31, 1977 as a Ward Supervisor. She moved to Wortham Rehabilitation center in Wortham, Texas and resided there for the last four years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Thornton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Emory Sharp.
She is survived by her son, Wayne C. Sharp of Rusk, Daughter in law, Patsy Sharp, Three grandchildren,Allen Wayne, David Wade and Karyn Denise, four great grandchildren, Justin, Robin Jo, Allen Wesley and Jousha, and her sister, Billie Jo Bennett of Thornton.
Pallbearers were Allen Wayne Sharp, David Sharp, Justin Sharp, Allen Wesley Sharp, Jousha Sharp and Bobby Williams.

John Carlos Sodd, local rancher, passed away February 13, 2008.
He was born November 11, 1947, in Winnsboro, Louisiana.
A memorial service was held Sunday, February 17, at the Groesbeck Church of Christ with Bro. Richard Williams officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Norman Sodd; daughter, Crystie Oden and her husband Greg of Crossett, Arkansas; grandson, Garrett Oden of Crossett, Arkansas; sister, Charlotte Evans and her husband Martin of West Monroe, Louisiana; other relatives and friends.

Joanna C. Taylor Funeral Services Held Feb. 11
Joanna Curlee Taylor, 73, of Woodway, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008. Services were held on Monday, Feb. 11 at First United Methodist Church of Waco with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating. Burial followed at Waco Memorial Park.
Joanna was born August 23, 1934 in Groesbeck to Onys and Mildred (Fitzgerald) Curlee. She attended high school in Groesbeck where she was a drum majorette. She graduated from Providence School of Nursing in 1954 and also attended Baylor University. She worked as an RN in Austin, Graham, Waco and Groesbeck and also for the VA Hospital in Waco. She married Charles Curtiss Taylor on August 1, 1966 in Waco.
Joanna was an angel, and you could see her wings as she lovingly talked and helped people. She was an incredible person who loved everyone, especially her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Angela Cox and Sandra Salazar.
Joanna is survived by her husband, Charles Curtiss Taylor, Sr.; sons: Charles Curtiss Taylor, Jr. of Woodway and Richard L. Taylor and wife, Arleta of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters: Julie Anna Anders and husband, Brycen of Ft. Worth and Carol Jean Brown of Woodway; grandchildren: Sophia Joanna Taylor of Las Vegas, William Allen Daniel of Dallas, John Travis Daniel of Ft. Worth, Candace Jane Stead of Waco, Taylor Andrew Brown of Houston; great-grandchildren: Kamberleigh Daniel, Brenliegh Stead, Justin Stead, Halie Nicole Daniel; brother, Loren L. Curlee; and many friends and relatives.

Graveside Services Held Feb. 14 for Frank L. Willis
Frank (Mutt) Lawrence Willis of Groesbeck passed away peacefully Wednesday February 13, 2008 in St. Catherine Center in Waco.
Graveside services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 14, at Wortham Cemetery with Rev. Billy Anderson officiating.
Mr. Willis was born May 4, 1952 in Mexia, to George and Katherine (Shinault) Willis. He was self employed as a truck driver/ranching.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marion and Novie Willis; parents George and Katherine (Shinault) Willis; aunts Peggy Goodrich, Ann Mansford and Anna Bell Stephens.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his brother Ronnie Dempsey of Mexia; uncles David Shinault and wife Fran of Hamilton, Tommy Shinault of Athens, Wilmer Shinault of Hamilton; aunt Barbara Lou Shinault; cousin Danny and Donna Brewer and a special friend of 24 years Willie Ray of Groesbeck.
