- Mr. E.J. Archie Funeral Services Are Held Recently
Funeral services for E.J. Archie were held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 12 p.m. in the Carl Barnes Chapel in Houston. He passed away on December 26, 2007.
Rev. Thomas Booker officiated.
On January 29, 1926 in Groesbeck, Texas (Limestone County) a baby boy was born to Henry Archie and Idener Massey Archie, whom they named E.J. Archie.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He attended public school in and around the Groesbeck area. Among his hobbies were fishing and hunting and he also loved playing baseball in his younger years.
On August 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Willie Lee Jennings. To this union, six children were born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Lee Archie; two daughters, Hazel M. Portis and Glenda F. Long; two sons-in-law, Sammy L. Portis and Henry J. Hopkins, Jr.; a grandson, Jonathan Portis; five brothers, Henry, Joseph, Rufus, Neimah and baby Reece; four sisters, Beatrice, Elnora, Ruby and baby Margie.
He leaves to cherish his memories, sons: Willie J. Archie (Jocina) and Eugene Archie, both of Houston; daughter, Magnolia Hopkins-Kinney (Willie) of Houston; godson, whom he loved dearly, Charles Hill (Chryl) of Dallas; brother, Babe Ruth Archie (Christine) of Odessa; sisters, Idena Miller (Charlie) of Dallas, Inez West and Edna Fields, both of Odessa; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers were grandsons Henry J. Hopkins, III, Victor D. Hopkins, Bassey L. Hopkins, Johnny Long, Jr., Sammy L. Portis, Jr., Shondrick Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Willie J. Archie, Eugene Archie, Kenneth W. Archie, Babe Ruth Archie.
Interment was in the Paradise North Cemetery in Houston.

Graveside Services Held Jan. 26 for Elouise M.Charanza
Graveside services for Mrs. Elouise M. Charanza, 85, longtime resident of Mexia were held Saturday, January 26, 2008 in Mexia Cemetery. Rev. Rick Gray, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiated with interment following in Mexia Cemetery.
Mrs. Charanza was born August 31, 1922 and passed away on January 24, 2008 in the local hospital. She was a registered nurse, worked at Mexia State School and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia.
She is survived by her husband, Milton Charanza of Mexia; daughter, Rosa Gonzales and husband, Tony of Corsicana; granddaughter, Terra Bowen of Corsicana and numerous cousins.

Memorial Services Held Wednesday for Doris Wellman
Doris Christine Wellman, 61, of Groesbeck passed away Friday January 25, 2008 in Providence Health Center in Waco.
Memorial Services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday January 30, 2008 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clifton Jones officiating.
Mrs. Wellman was born April 21, 1946 in Rosebud, Falls County, Texas to Ira and Eunice (Cloer) Williams. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband John Wellman of Groesbeck; daughter Karen Moscicki of Groesbeck; three grandchildren Carly Harouse of Groesbeck, Heather Graham of Groesbeck, Tyler Inmon of Groesbeck; two great grandchildren Cayden Graham of Mexia and Sterlin Graham of Mexia; four sisters Pat Brim of Groesbeck, Ruby Austin of Groesbeck, Juanita Austin of Ft. Worth, Elsie Campbell of Groesbeck; brother W. C. Williams of Bruceville; raised as daughter Wanda Schlemmer of Mart, TX.
