Graveside Services Held Nov. 29 for Robert E. DeLong
On November 25, 2007 Mr. Robert Ellington DeLong went home. He was born in Houston, Texas October 27, 1919 to Raleigh and Mary Ellington DeLong. He and Jeanette Simpson were married on May 23, 1943 in Victoria, Texas. He attended A & M University before serving his country during World War II as a hump pilot in India. Upon returning home he was greeted by his wife, 14 month old son Robert and other family members. He worked as a crop duster in Mexia, Texas before working for H. B. Zachary of San Antonio as an Engineer. After several years he moved to Houston where he worked with Brown and Root. He and his family were able to live in Spain and England as the jobs required. He retired to Huntsville, Texas in 1983 to be near his son, an attorney, who was General Counsel and Assistant Director for TDCJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and son Robert Ellington DeLong, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanette, his daughter Hannah Ann De Long O’Donnell, a retired correctional officer and current TDCJ Human Resources employee, his granddaughter Risa Ann O’Donnell Benedick and her husband Ralph E. Benedick, grandson Robert Ellington Delong III, great-granddaughter’s Britney Alisa Ann Lippke and Arial Elizabeth DeLong, along with many cousins and friends.
He was laid to rest November 29, 2007 at 2 PM in Mexia Cemetery with Father Jim Morgan of Huntsville officiating under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.

Berton H. Gates Funeral Services Held December4
Berton Hubert Gates, Sr., 83, of Groesbeck passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Head, Jr. and Rev. Jamie Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Parker Memorial Park.
Mr. Gates was born July 15, 1924 in Scott, Arkansas the fourth of seven children born to Everett Gates and Mary Elizabeth (Glenn) Gates. He grew up in the Kentucky Community near Hot Springs, Arkansas, a community resided in by his family for over 100 years. He served in the United States Army in Guadacanal. He married Ruth Ringgold in 1946. They moved to the Houston area where their four children were born and raised and where Berton lived until retirement. Berton was active in the Sheet Metal Local #54 serving as president and business agent. He passionately served in th local union and other programs as an advocate for building trades and promoting apprenticeship training. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, of the Scottish Rite and of the Shriners.
Berton met and married Ann Lawless in 1993. He actively worked until disabled by a stroke in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Gates of Groesbeck; his son, Berton Hubert Gates, Jr. of Groesbeck; three daughters, Rosalyn “Rose” Mashaw of Mexia; Mary Elizabeth Shepherd and husband Jerry of Midlothian; Barbara Ann Davenport and husband James of West Columbia; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three step daughters Annette Jackson and husband Ricky of Lufkin, Kimberly Cortines and husband David of Groesbeck, Suzanne Welch and husband DeLynn of Azle; five step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two sisters Nancy Sultan of Fairbanks, AL and Jewell Winn of Romance, AR.
Pallbearers were grandsons.

Graveside Services Held Nov. 29 for Mary Frances Kinsala
Mary Frances Kinsala of Groesbeck passed away Monday November 26, 2007 in Windsor Healthcare Residence.
Graveside services were conducted on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Faulkenberry Cemetery with Rev. Tracy Sims officiating.
Mrs. Kinsala was born October 17, 1918 in Palmer, Texas to Jake and Roney (Hargrove) Jones. She attended school at Palmer, Texas. On August 23, 1937 she married Robert Leon “Sonny” Kinsala in Waxahachie, Texas. They moved to Groesbeck in1943. Mrs. Kinsala was employed by Evans Corner Drug, Shultz Pharmacy and retired from Lew Rich Cleaners in 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Phyliss and Bill Avant of Groesbeck; granddaughter Brittany Vargas of Temple and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by parents, Jake and Roney Jones, husband R. L. “Sonny” Kinsala; son Marvin Kinsala; granddaughter Julie Avant Vargas and six brothers.

Christell Leach Funeral Services Held December 1
Christell Ellen Leach, 92, of Groesbeck passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Fambrough of Church of Christ in Lake Jackson and Bro. Larry Wilson of Davis Chapel officiating.
Mrs. Leach was born December 1, 1914 in Thornton, Texas to William Lafayett and George Anna (Ferrill) Lenamond. She married Wayman O. Leach on August 24, 1940 in Mexia. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She retired from the Mexia State School.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Bobbie and Lee Turrubiarte of Groesbeck; son and daughter-in-law Danny and Marilyn Leach of Amarillo; five grandsons David Turrubiarte and wife Kim of Rosharon, Danny Ray Leach, Jr. of Amarillo, Christopher Leach of Amarillo, Eric Turrubiarte of Groesbeck, Kyle Leach of Amarillo; two granddaughters Adrianna Ringo and husband Dale of Kosse, Michelle Leach of Amarillo; great grandson Bradley Turrubiarte of Groesbeck; two great granddaughters Jada and Berkley Price of Amarillo; step great grandchildren Shaver Huff and wife Erin of Grapeland, Chance Huff and wife Christie of Grapeland, Hollie Huff of Grapeland, Traetin Turrubiarte of Rosharon, TX, Charles Turrubiarte of Rosharon, Katie Ringo of Terrell; step great great grandson Heston Huff of Grapeland.
Preceded in death by parents, William and George Anna Lenamond; husband Wayman O. Leach; all her brothers and sisters.

Dorothy Nell Pollard Funeral Services Held December 4
Dorothy Nell Pollard passed away at St. Catherine’s Center in Waco, Texas on December 1, 2007. Funeral services were held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Ave., in Waco, Tuesday, December 4. Burial to at Coolidge Cemetery in Coolidge.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (Snub) W. Pollard, Sr. in 1985, two sisters and five brothers, and her parents Ernest and Della Bailey.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Beverly Harrison and husband Richard of Pearland, Ken Pollard and wife Cynthia of “The Homeplace”, Coolidge, and Vikki Connell and husband Jack of Bedford, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Nell and Snub raised their three children on the farm which had been in their family since the days following the Civil War. She was very active in her church and civic organizations. She was a member and officer of Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs and a member of the Limestone County Historical Commission. Assisted by her husband, she platted the Calina Cemetery and the nearby Trammel family burial site. Nell also had a passion for writing. In 1976 she researched and wrote a history of Delia, Texas, titled, “Delia, Then and Now.”
Nell retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1990 after serving 13 years as the postmaster in Coolidge. Her days after retirement were filled with traveling, volunteering with RSVP and serving as a 1st grade tutor for Parkdale Elementary, playing dominoes at Sul Ross Senior Center, and her first love, singing. During her years in retirement she was a member of The Baylor Senior Choir, and the sanctuary choir and Sweet Spirit Ensemble of Western Heights Baptist Church. She also served as an Ombudsman for the Apple Tree Bazaar.
Her family was her pride and joy.

Willie Fay Rusing Funeral Services Held November 19
Funeral services for Willie Fay (Carroll) Rushing, 86, of Mexia, were held Thursday, November 19, 2007 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton. Rev. Billy Anderson officiated with interment in the Thornton Cemetery.
Mrs. Rushing was born September 20, 1921 in Bremond, Texas to George Newton and Ellie Bradshaw Carroll and passed away November 15, 2007 in Mexia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Fay Miles and son Marshell Edward Rushing; three sisters: Dorothy West Wimberley, Flossie Mae Barfield, Mary Lewis; one brother, Carla Junior Carroll.
She is survived by her daughter Rita Drennan of Groesbeck; son, Glen Rushing of Richland Chambers; two sisters, Sydonia Willard of Groesbeck and Rose Carroll of Garland; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Veron Miles, Kenneth Ellis, Thomas Suarez, James West, William West, Lee Drennan, Sean Clifton.
Funeral Services Held Dec. 4 For Barnie Bob Savage
Funeral services for Mr. Barnie Bob Savage, 79, of Mexia were held Tuesday, December 4, 2007 in the Blair-Stubbs funeral home chapel in Mexia. Dwain Rosson and Dee Teel officiated and interment followed in the Driver cemetery in Freestone County.
Mr. Savage was born on January 2, 1928 in Wellington, Texas to Othel and Gertrude Savage and passed away on December 1, 2007 in a local nursing home.
He had worked as a longshoreman for about 30 years and served his country in the United States military during the Korean War. He was a member of the Teague Church of Christ.
Survivors are his wife, Mary B. Savage of Mexia, daughter and son –in-law, Carolyn and John Crundwell of Teague, son and daughter-in-law, Barnie Edward and Sheila Savage of Galveston, two grandchildren, Travis and Caitlin Savage of Galveston.
He is also Survived by his brothers and sisters, Wanda Savage of Ada, OK, Avis Savage of Stratford, OK., Linda Rosson and husband, Dwain of Stratford, OK, O. A. Savage and wife, Darla of Stratford, OK and Jerry Savage and wife, Marlene of Bentonville, AR. And several step-children.
