Aubrey Newell Little Funeral Services Held October 29
A.N. (Boob) Little, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and long-time area businessman, passed away in his home on Friday, October 26, 2007. He was 87.
A.N. was born September 18, 1920, in the small community of Kickapoo, Texas, where as a baby he was given the nickname "Boob" from the comic strip character Boob McNutt by Rube Goldberg that first appeared in 1915. By the age of 10 he was sharing his voice with others at various singings across Limestone and Freestone counties, earning him the nickname "Limestone Kid." In 1932, Boob was asked to sing at a three-day singing at the Mexia Civic Center where the Stamp Baxter Quartet was in attendance. At the age of 15, he and his brothers started the Little Quartet and sang on a radio program on a Corsicana station. This love of music continued throughout his life as he used his voice to glorify God and lead singing for numerous Churches of Christ over the next 65 years.
Mr. Little started numerous Mexia businesses. During the late forties and early fifties he operated the Little Service Station located on the corner of Main and Railroad Street. By the mid-fifties he opened Little Television and Sewing Center that transitioned into Little Fabric Shop and Sewing Center. He and Calvin Prowell of Mexia built Tejas Plaza in the mid 1960's. In 1973 he sold his fabric business. During the seventies, Mr. Little became a licensed real estate broker conducting business as A.N. (Boob) Little & Associates with his son Lanny, until his retirement in 1984.
After his retirement, Mr. Little coordinated the Jolly 60s program in Mexia that saw attendance up to 100, then moved to Groesbeck and started the program there, with attendance up to 225. The Jolly 60s enjoyed monthly performances, as well as trips to Branson, San Antonio, and Eureka Springs. The purpose of this organization was not to set older people apart from the main-stream of Christian activity, but to reach out and bring together those who walked a slower pace, had suffered loss, and overcome obstacles. Mr. Little continued to share his love of music with family and friends by playing his guitar and singing for various nursing homes across Mexia up until the last months of his life.
Mr. Little was a member of the Northcrest Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Westside Church of Christ. Boob was a man of strong character and faith. He loved people, music, and to entertain. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lived a life filled with purpose.
