- Graveside Services Held in Katy for James R. Ferrill
James "Rick" Richard Ferrill was born September 30, 1949 in Mexia, Texas to James Olan and Nelda Elaine Ferrill. Rick has lived in Eagle Lake since 1980. On November 29, 1968, he married Carolyn Painter. To this union was born three children: Jamie Sue, Clinton Ray, and Cash Olan.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Carolyn; his father, Bill Ferrill; daughter Jamie Sue Stach and husband Matt; son, Cash Olan Ferrill and wife, Jennifer; sisters, Sherian Smith and husband Herman, and Rhonda Dininger; grandchildren Mason and Mallory Miller, Sawyer Stach, Kristen and Brett Ferrill; aunts Glenda Gregory, Marceline Gantt, and Doris Wilson; uncle Jerry Ferrill and wife Jane; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He will truly be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nelda Ferrill, son Clint Ferrill, brothers Wayne and Kirk Ferrill.
Graveside services were held at Katy Magnolia Cemetery in Katy, Texas.
Eagle Lake Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jose Olivares Funeral Services Held Feb. 23
Funeral services for Jose (Joey) Olivares, Jr. 23, of Mexia were held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. Rev.Mario Rivera and Rev. Paul Moore officiated with interment to follow in Mexia Cemetery.
Joey was born October 8, 1984 in Teague to Jose and Antonita (Tonie) Olivares and passed away on February 19, 2008 in Hillcrest Hospital in Waco following an automobile accident. He graduated Mexia High School in 2003 where he was very active in athletics. He attended college for a year and was employed by Flo Tech Oilfield Supply Co.
He is survived by his mother, Antonita (Tonie) Olivares of Mexia, his father, Jose Olivares, Sr. of Mexia, daughter, Reyna Olivares of Rosenburg, Texas, maternal grandparents, Santiago Rivera of Kingsville and Rosalinda Hernandez of Mexia, paternal grandmother, Porforia Olivares of Alice, brothers and sisters, Joel Olivares, Rose Mary Olivares and Rolando Olivares, all of Mexia , and a number of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. He will always be in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Manuel Olivares.
Pallbearers were George Rodriguez, Joel Olivares, Jose Rodriguez, Victor Estrada, Albert Trevino, Miguel Contreras, Martin Olivares, Jr., Ricky Payne, Mark Rodriguez and Anthony Gomez.

Funeral Services Held Feb. 18 for Ruby M. Smith
Ruby (Maudine) Smith, age 85, of Valley Mills passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 in a local hospital.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 18 at the First Baptist Church in Valley Mills. Graveside services were held on Monday, Feb. 18 at the Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck under the direction of Foss Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born on Dec., 4, 1922 in Malakoff, Texas. She was the daughter of Dewey Otis and Vinnie (Morgan) Cartlidge. She moved to Harris County when she was a young child and resided there until retirement.
Maudine graduated from Charles Bender High School in Humble in 1940 and later graduated from Southwestern Business University in Houston, in 1941. She worked for Southwestern Association Telephone Company in Baytown from 1941 until going to work for Humble Oil & Refining Company (now Exxon) where she worked for 27 years, retiring in 1972.
She married Maxie John Smith in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1991.
After they both retired from Humble Oil they moved to Jewett, Texas, then to Indianola, Oklahoma. Later moved back to Thornton and then to Waco and Valley Mills. She was a member of the Valley Mills First Baptist Church and the V.M. Heritage Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Preslar and husband Kris; four grandchildren: Heather Buice and husband Ken, Heath Ainsworth and wife Terri, Cody Ainsworth and wife Candice and Zach Preslar; one sister, Aline (Cartlidge-Burton) Pfeiffer and husband Al; great-grandchildren: Colt, Harlie, Dakota, Candace, William, Waylon, Jeremy, Cutter, Kayla, Austin, Jacee, Jillian, and Carley; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Donnie Charles Lee Held Feb. 11
Donnie Charles Lee, 53, of Kosse, died February 11 in Kosse.
Funeral services were held February 13 at Englunds Chapel in Slaton Texas with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Burial followed in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Donnie was born March 25, 1954, in Portales, New Mexico, and graduated from Portales High School in 1973. He moved to Slaton in 1983 where he worked for his brother at Max Lee’s Spraying for 15 years. He moved to Kosse and began working for D & F Agricultural Services in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Lee; a son, Anthony and wife Amanda Lee of Slaton; daughters, Carolyn Lee of Louisville, Kentucky, and Tamara Lee of Kosse; brothers, Harvey and wife Nancy, and Max and wife Betty, both of Slaton, Ronnie and wife Lura of Clovis, New Mexico, and Eugene and wife Pat of Portales, New Mexico; and a granddaughter, Audrey Allisa Lee.

Funeral Services for Mary Johnson Held Feb. 24th
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Leona Johnson, 86, of Jewett were held Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Blair – Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel in Mexia. Interment will follow in the Plummer Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was born December 6, 1921 in Ennis, Texas to Joe Wesley and Lilly Lenora (Honza) Mach and passed away in the Mexia Hospital on February 21, 2008. She was a resident of Jewett for over 25 years, a telephone operator for Southwest-ern Bell Telephone in Dallas, a seamstress and a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, O. B. Johnson in 1999, and one brother, one sister, son, Oscar Stephens, Jr. and grandson, John Wesley Mobley, III.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Shannon and husband, Larry, of Dallas and Rose Stephens of Garland, grandchildren: Kim Christensen and husband Perry, Debbie North and husband, Kendell, and Josh Stephens, and three great grand-children, Brittney Wortham, John Wesley Mobley, IV, and Sadie Stephens.
Pallbearers will be Perry Christensen, Kendell North, Josh Stephens, and John Mobley, Jr.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Copper Creek Nursing and Rehab and Parkview Regional Hospital for their excellent care.

Funeral Services held for Marybeth Hunt
Marybeth Eda Hunt of Kosse passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Limestone Medical Center.
FUNERAL services were conducted Friday, February 22, 2008 at 2:00 PM in First United Methodist Church in Kosse with Rev. John Montgomery and Andy Bratcher officiating.
Marybeth Hunt was born August 1, 1912 in Kosse, Texas to Athy Thomas and Maggie (Sowders) Daly. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Kosse, Calvert and Bremond Schools. She married Jack Hunt on July 15, 1980 in Corsicana, Texas.
Mrs. Hunt is preceded in death by her parents Athy and Maggie Daly; daughter Judith Elaine Colbert.
Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband Jack Hunt of Kosse; son Scotty G. Arnst and wife Sammi of Little Rock, AR; daughter Tommy Beth Sjerven and husband Larry of Huntsville, TX; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
