The Fourth Annual Alewine Reunion
The descendants of Ollie and Florence Alewine met on Saturday, April 5th. at the Groesbeck City Park. Rita and Leo Davis and their children were the hosts for this year's family celebration.
The park was a wonderful place for all the young cousins to romp and play. We keep adding to the family as the two newest members are Celia Rose Davis, 4 months old and Chase Franklin Davis, 4 weeks old. Celia was in attendance with her older brother, Noah; however, Chase was a little too young to make this year's reunion, but his 15-month old brother, Luke was there in fine form.
We enjoyed watching the children as they played on the playground equipment, with games, toys and each other. But this was a bitter sweet reunion for us as we watched the next generation of Alewine kids have a good time. We had just lost our oldest living brother and family patriarch, Homer Paul Alewine in a freak farm accident two weeks earlier. We knew that he would want us to keep this celebration for our family going and could imagine him smiling down on us from heaven.
As food always plays a big part in any "Alewine Gathering", we started with appetizers of Kirby's ribs and Woody's sausage and numerous dips/chips. Our main course was brats and hot dogs with all the trimmings, corn on the cob, new grilled potatoes. The desserts were probably the biggest display of sweets ever assembled. True to our Alewine heritage, we all over indulged!
Those attending were Ann Alewine of Big Hill; Waylan Alewine, Joe and Nancy Alewine, Lisa Alewine Bruner, Cody and Caycee of Groesbeck; Rita and Leo Davis of Deer Park; Rucker, Nikki, Noah and Celia Davis of Houston; Mike and Luke Davis of Pearland; Danny and Karen Alewine of Lubbock; Chance Alewine of Corpus Christi; Terry and Dianne Doughty, Eric, Tarah and Carter Doughty of Hurst; Mark, Lara, and Sam Alewine of Cypress; Amanda Alewine-Blackley of Orlando, Florida; Cindy, Stephen and Ethan Spess of Austin. Special guests were long time friends of the family, Jack and Sue Leach of Big Hill.
We all have great memories of growing up in a wonderful family that stressed a strong belief in God and the importance of family. We are trying to pass that legacy on to the next generation. Therefore, we're making plans for our 5th annual reunion next year with Waylan Alewine and his children in charge.
