The Groesbeck softball varsity team captured the Bremond Tournament Championship by defeating Crockett.
Groesbeck beat Normangee 12 to 1 in the opening round last Thursday, March 17.
Shana Watson recorded 12 strikeouts in the game against Normangee. Kristian Masters popped a home run and added a double while leading the Lady Goats in hitting.
Milano fell victim to Groesbeck in the second game on Thursday by a final of 6 to 3. Kayla Masters had 3 rbi's in the game.
On Saturday the Lady Goats escaped Mexia in the semi-finals by a score of 3 to 2. The Lady Goats scored all three runs in the first inning. Kaitlin Roach had 2 rbi's in the inning and was credited with jumpstarting the Lady Goats.
In the championship game, Shana Watson gave up only 1 hit and had 10 strike outs to lead Groesbeck on the mound. Becky Pankonien had 2 hits in that game to pace Groesbeck.
Coach Allen says of his Lady Goats, "We're playing really good as a group and different people are stepping up each game for us."
Coach Allen also was quick to mention that he had a good group of senior leaders in Shana, Kristian, Kayla and Kaitlin. Shana has been pitching really well for Groesbeck in her fourth season at that position.
Groesbeck 11-3 overall began district 18-3A play this week with games against Fairfield and Madisonville. The Lady Goats will travel to Madisonville this Thursday, March 24.
The Lady Goats are scheduled to play at Bryan on Monday, March 28, but the game could be rescheduled to Tuesday, March 29 or possibly even canceled due to UIL. The Lady Goats will host Mexia on Friday, April 1 in a district game.
The junior varsity lost 4-1 against Whitney on Friday, March 11.
