Goat Tennis Splits Two
The Goat tennis team played two 4A schools and won one of the two. The Goats played Killeen Ellison and dropped a hard fought match 5-14 to the Eagles. This was revenge for Ellison from the fall of 2003 matchup. The match was won by the Eagles with three dramatic third set tie-breakers in each girls doubles match and one at the #1 boys doubles. The Goats Clayton Rettig and Tiffany Hill won a third set tie-breaker in the mixed doubles to put the score at 1-6 after doubles. Winning in singles were: Clayton Rettig, Jordan Boecker, Blair Wilson and Kierston Hamilton.
Brenham High, another 4A school, provided the matchup on Saturday. Groesbeck was without #1 boy Cody Studivant for this match due to an injury in what appeared to be an even match. The Goats took two boys doubles wins, mixed doubles and one girls doubles match. Rettig and Boecker, Cody Havner and Jon Hutchason, Wilson and April Beaver and Hill and Jon Hamilton gave the Goats a 4-3 lead. In singles, Boecker, William Madison, Caleb Allison, Havner, Hutchason, Kierston Hamilton and Jessica Studivant took wins for an 11-8 GHS victory. The win Saturday saw a Goat lineup of two seniors, three juniors, eight sophomores and two freshmen.
