Lady Goats still battling tough as district play begins to wind down
Journal Staff Report
The Groesbeck Lady Goats play two tough district opponents last week, although battling as hard as they could, the wins eluded them both times.
Marlin came in last Tuesday and took an 89-36 outcome from the Lady Goats. Natleigh Burns led Groesbeck with 11 points, followed by Chanel Ratcliff with 8, Kiera Anglin hit six, Abigail Johnson and Kennedy Cox each scored four and Shaykara Carter finished with three.
The road game with the McGregor was much closer.
Groesbeck, however, got off to a slow start as the Lady Bulldogs led at the half, 39-20. The Lady Goats managed to outscore McGregor in the second half, 31-22, but came up 10 points shy of tying the game up as the buzzer sounded to end the game.
Carter led the Lady Goats with 15 points, followed by Lauren Smith with 11, Ratcliff hit nine, Anglin six, Cox four, Kolby Brown, Burns and Johnson all finished with two apiece.
The girls have three more district games left. They were scheduled to host West Tuesday night, then travel to Troy this Friday evening and close out at home on Feb. 7 with Clifton.
