Lady Goats finish season with huge win over Clifton

The 2016-17 basketball season may have started off slow for the Groesbeck Lady Goats, but they made a lot of improvements throughout the year and ended district play with a convincing 69-49 win over Clifton last Tuesday night at home.
Groesbeck led 18-10 after one and 32-30 at the half, with Chanel Ratcliff scoring 13 of her game-high 26 across the first two periods of play.
With a two-point lead entering the third period, Shaykara Carter hit a couple of big three-point shots and a free throw to help the Lady Goats in outscoring Clifton, 17-7, to increase their advantage to 49-37.
Groesbeck kept up the scoring pace in the fourth, with Ratcliff hitting 7 of 11 free throws during the period.
Joining Ratcliff in double-digit scoring was Carter, who finished with 18, Kennedy Cox hit seven, Lauren Smith scored six, Kiera Anglin knocked down five, Natleigh Burns finished with three points and both Kolby Brown and Abigail Johnson hit two points each.
