Reopening of GISD Campuses, Part 2

Groesbeck ISD shared more information about the opening of schools for the fall semester on July 23 in the second installment of ‘Word from the Herd’. 

Takeaways from that video were the following:

  • School will start Wed. Aug. 12. (as published in the Groesbeck Journal July 23 issue). 

  • There will different drop-off and pick-up procedures for all students. Car and bus riders.

  • Multiple entry and exit points will be open to help reduce the number of people at the doors.

  • Health screenings of students or staff will be conducted. Those with 100 degrees Fahrenheit temperature or more or if presenting symptoms of COVID-19 will gain no entry into buildings. Do not send your student to school with a fever or possible symptoms.

  • Students will be able to complete instructions online from home if ill and be counted present. 

  • Students 4-12 grade must wear face coverings. A student with no mask will not be permitted entry into any bus or building of GISD.

  • Students who wish to not wear a mask may complete instruction online from home and be counted present. More detailed information on that to come. 

  • GISD will be provided with disposable facemasks, face shields, and hand sanitizer for all campuses. Students may provide their own if they choose to do so. 

  • Scheduling will be different to limit student movement and maintain social distancing.

  • All students will have PE, music, tennis, band, and athletics were available.

  • No water fountains will be available. Students may bring their own bottle with a lid and may refill at the school.

  • Regular hand-washing and sanitizing stations will be placed throughout the buildings. Students will be instructed on proper handwashing.

  • No visitors or delivery of outside lunches to students will be allowed. 

  • Communication will not be limited as parents may call or email their school or teachers at any time.

  • Strict cleaning of the buildings will be scheduled. Restrooms cleaned three times a day, entry doors cleaned four times a day and any areas commonly used by students will be disinfected between groups. Commonly touched objects like doorknobs will be disinfected all throughout the day.

  • A back to school plan is in the works and more information will be released soon on how to share your opinion on the re-opening of schools for GISD.

Reopening of GISD Campuses, Part 1

GISD Superintendent Dr. James Cowley shares some information about the opening of schools for the fall semester on July 16 in the first installment of ‘Word from the Herd’. An informational video series the district is sharing with the public in preparation for the opening of school Aug. 12.

Takeaways from that video were the following:

  • All staff will be masked, all students 4th grade and up will be required to wear masks. 

  • Health and safety measures will be heightened. 

  • A full-time nurse will be on each campus.

  • Required health screenings will take place.

  • Social distancing will be enforced. 

  • All campus cleaning/sanitizing will be heightened and made public. 

  • A plan for instruction was still being finalized.
