Healthcare agencies spread joy

Parents, children and health care workers joined in a pop-up parade organized by the Bi-Stone Health Alliance. The procession made its way around Freestone and Limestone County medical facilities and nursing homes in both counties beginning Tuesday, April 14 and continuing the following Thursday.

“We drove around Freestone Medical Center and Clinic, Teague Nursing and Rehab, Fairfield Nursing and Rehab, and Fairview Nursing Home with our decorated cars, playing encouraging music,” Andrea Lopez said. “The smiles and waves were a great pay off for the parade. Bi-Stone Health Alliance is a group of different providers in the healthcare field.”

She works for Teague Nursing and Rehab and participated in the parade. The radio station 99.1 FM in Fairfield took a special list of music and played it for the parade. Those participating gave out candy and pens and honked horns.

Elara Caring, Teague Nursing and Rehab, Texas Home Health, Fairfield Nursing and Rehab, Heights home health and Reliant Hospice participated. In addition, healthcare centers with Limestone and Parkview Regional medical centers were selected spots on the parade route.

"We all wanted to show not only appreciation but spread some joy in these uncharted times," Lopez concluded.

RNA Veranda Thomas works with Teague Nursing and Rehabilitation off State Highway 84, eagerly greeting and waving to the procession that made several loops around the parking lot before heading to Freestone. She shouted, “Thank you, we appreciate you!” to the procession before the vehicles headed to the next stop at Parkview Clinic of Teague. She received candy to distribute to the residents she tends to inside. She said that the crisis has been difficult for staff and residents alike, though community support such as the parade encourages everyone to continue as best as possible.

Stops included the Freestone Medical Center, FMC Clinic, Fairfield Nursing & Rehab, and Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation. The group also stopped by PRH and LMC in Limestone.

Staff at locations were appreciative of the parade effort, which was performed under guidelines recommended by the CDC.
