No homecoming game tonight, homecoming parade to still happen

The homecoming football game scheduled for tonight between Fairfield and Groesbeck has been postponed until Oct. 30 due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 at Fairfield.

Groesbeck Coach Jerry Bomar said he received word at 9 o'clock Friday morning that the game would have to be postponed. He tried to find another opponent for what would have been Groesbeck's Homecoming game, but the short notice made it impossible to find another team to play and there will be no game Friday night.

The homecoming court and queen crowning took place at 6:30 p.m followed by the Ex-Students honors and a performance by GHS Band.

The football game against Fairfield is rescheduled for October 30, 2020 at Groesbeck High School Football Stadium. Tickets purchased for tonight’s game, September 25, 2020, will be honored for the October 30, 2020 game. An exception to the no-refund policy for tickets is being made for the September 25, 2020 Homecoming game only. For those who will not be able to attend the game on October 30, refunds will be given tonight, Friday, September 25, 2020, 5:30 – 7:00 PM and Monday, September 28, 2020, 4:30 – 7:00 PM. In order to receive a refund you must bring your ticket(s) to the Groesbeck Football Stadium Visitor Ticket Booth. No refunds will be made after Monday, September 28, 2020. If you have questions or concerns about ticket refunds, please call Melissa Smith in the GISD Business Office at 254-729-4142.

Homecoming plans for Saturday are to remain the same.

The homecoming parade will still go on.  “We have worked too hard and have many entries, these kids deserve their day,” said parade chairman Lisa Stewart.

The theme of the parade will be "Honoring Our First Responders". The parade will take place on Sat. Sept. 26 at 10:30 am in downtown Groesbeck. The full parade lineup can be found at https://bit.ly/3mPYHTX

The honor classes for this year's homecoming are those classes ending in and "5". The GHS Class of 1970 will be celebrating its 50th year since graduating from Groesbeck High School. The Class of 1970 will be receiving their 50-year diplomas. The Class will be riding in the homecoming parade and will be having its 50th-year reunion party on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Maffett Memorial Library. The 50-year diplomas are to be presented at that time.
