Abundant: A Weekly Devotional

Christ has promised to give us abundant life (John 10:10). The following list many of the ways this Greek word is used “far more” (Heb. 7:15), “greater” (Mk. 12:40; Lk. 20:47), “more than” (Mk. 12:33), “more abundant” (I Cor. 12:23, 24; 15:10; Heb. 6:17), “more abundantly” (II Cor. 1:12; 2:4), “much more” (Lk. 7:26), overmuch (II Cor. 2:7), “more exceedingly” (Gal. 1:14). In John 10:1-21 is the parable of the sheepfold. Jesus is the door yet a thief attempts to climb up some other way to enter. The gatekeeper admits Jesus, but bars the entrance against the thief. The sheep know the Shepherd’s voice, but not that of the thief. They follow the Shepherd, but flee the thief. The Shepherd brings life more abundant to His sheep. Christ makes this promise to every person that has accepted Him as Lord and Saviour. We cannot measure the true meaning of “far more, greater, more than, exceedingly,” and other meanings of the word abundant. This is a promise of God to us that we have the potential of living this abundant life because Christ will not break His promise. Are we living like we have abundant life or do we act defeated?
