Love Masters McMillan - August 19, 1921 - August 26, 2017
Love Masters McMillan, 96, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Mart, Texas, passed away on August 26, 2017, at the Arden Park Assisted Living Home in San Antonio.
Love was born on August 19, 1921, in Frosa, Texas, in Limestone County to Chester and Delila (McKenzie) Masters. She was their youngest daughter and last surviving child. Love was the granddaughter of John Henry and Josephine (Martin) McKenzie, pioneer settlers of the Ben Hur Community, and Mason H. and Mattie (Harveston) Masters, pioneer settlers of the Davis Prairie Community.
Love lived through the Great Depression, during which she worked on the family farm to help feed family, friends, and hungry strangers who passed by the family home looking for work. On June 4, 1946, she married Tommy M. McMillan and moved to Mart, where she lived until she moved to San Antonio in 2012 to live closer to her son, Tommy Owens, and his family. Early in their marriage, Love and Tommy operated the Sinclair Service Station and store in Mart; they lived in a small apartment above the store. For many years, Love and Tommy delivered the Waco Tribune and Dallas Morning Newspapers to the entire city of Mart.
Love was a great cook and she also liked to sew, knit, crochet and quilt; she made many beautiful items which her family will always cherish. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing family history research and scrapbooked several beautiful books complete with pictures.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Tommy M. McMillan; her parents; her sisters, Karon Folley, Carmen Young, Nina Gamble, Irene Vestal, Jewell Steele; and her brothers, Mason, McKenzie, and Fred Masters.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Owens McMillan, and his wife, Judy, of San Antonio; granddaughter, Tara Adam, and husband, Eric, of San Antonio; grandson, Kyle, of Austin; and her precious great-granddaughter, Julia Adam, also of San Antonio. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Grady and Iola McMillan of Ben Hur, Truman and Joyce McMillan of Marlin, and Lawrence McMillan of Llano; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 23, at the Mart Community Center, 800 E. Navarro Street, Mart, Texas 76664. Rev. Amy Anderson will officiate. A reception will follow the memorial service.
