Navarro gala fundraiser promises legacy for generations
Navarro College South is planning its annual gala fundraiser for March 3, and organizers are hoping that residents of the three counties it serves – Limestone, Freestone and Leon – will pencil it in on their calendars.
No one may hope that more than Navarro College South Dean Christina Mims.
“This is an opportunity for us to raise money for scholarships that will serve our area students,” she said. “I want to make it clear to everyone that the money raised at our event will only serve our service area: Freestone, Limestone and Leon counties. It won’t go to the main campus or anything like that.”
She explained that some of the money will go toward the Innovative Teaching Award, for which faculty members apply and compete. They may use the funds for new equipment, perhaps for professional development, things that will allow them to try new teaching techniques in the classroom, thus helping improve learning for many students.
Both the scholarships and the teaching awards are administered through the Navarro College Foundation, which also helps the campus plan the gala fundraiser.
Helping Navarro in this project will be quite pleasant for those attending, with all the features planned for the evening.
