Barstow resigns after one-season with Groesbeck
The hunt will be on for a new Groesbeck Goats varsity basketball coach. Coach William Barstow, according to Groesbeck ISD superintendent Dr. James Cowley, has submitted his letter of resignation and will be stepping down as head basketball coach after leading the Goats to their first district title since 1992. Barstow - who coached in Trenton prior to coming to Groesbeck, had also spent time at both Mexia and Marlin - was hired towards the end of the spring last school year, replacing then head coach, Chris Reid, who is currently the basketball coach of the Madisonville Mustangs. Barstow’s 2017-18 Goats team finished the year with an overall record of 19-15 and a district mark of 11-3, making it to the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
