Goats start district play with a 60-14 win over Panthers

The Groesbeck Goats did not disappoint their home fans as their first district game came to a close with a winning score of 60-14 making them 5-0 for the season. With a 27-0 lead over the Maypearl Panthers by the first quarter, the Goats rushed through to a 46-6 halftime lead over the arm of Quarterback Ty Hale.  

 

Hale completed 17 of 19 passes for 258 yards and 5 touchdowns by half-time. Also by halftime report, Brandyn Canady caught 6 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, Dylan Rand had 5 catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Ameer Lee carried 6 times for 49 yards and two touchdowns. The Goat defense made several key recoveries of Panther turnovers to set the Goats up for 3 short distance scoring drives. 

Starting the second half the Goats returned an interception for another six making it a score of  53-6. The Goats scored on two turnovers by Maypearl in the second half. Ameer Lee intercepted Kelly Evans pass early in the third quarter and returned it 55 yards for the first score. Then Jake Pringle scooped up a fumble and went 35 yards to score the final Goat touchdown of the game for a win to the District 9-3A opener of 60-14.

The game was halted for nearly 15 minutes because of an injury to Panther Cooper Maxwell who had to be taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The Goats are 5-0 so far and outscoring opponents 198-16.
